do u think it is a good idea?

i lived in Las Vegas for 4 months and really liked it. one day, i was in a Filipino restaurant w/ my family when i met another customer who was a Cebuano also. he start talking to me, and then finally he invited me to come visit his bar. he is a nurse and owned a bar...he told me that he has plenty of cebuano customers on his bar and i was very delighted on his invitation and really wanted to come. on the other hand, i always liked to have a restaurant of my own and then finally as i was just thinking. this guy that i met who owned the bar drove 30 minutes just to buy filipino food and i know i can make better dish than what they are selling in this particular restaurant. so what if, i will start my restaurant business next to his bar and by then i know that he has lots of customer and will soon to be my customers. i know most of the Filipino in the US are longing to eat filipino food that are prepared by Cebuanos or Bisaya...and by then i hopefully have a business hehe...so what are ur thoughts about this idea? is this a good one or a bad one? do u think i can get as many customers as i thought?

How closely have you checked out the area of where his bar is located? What may be good good business for a bar, may not be as good for a restaurant, however there are mamy restaurant/bars but do you want one right next door to another bar? Perhaps the area he is in is already flooded or could be that while the area is good for a bar, or club, may not benefit you. But if you go just a few blocks within the same area you may find the idea location, one that is close enough to draw his customers who want good food, and yet far enough to offer something to those who may want to go out to eat but don't necessarily want to go to the bar district for a meal. You will also need to take into consideration parking, and other factors when considering opening a restaurant. What if you open to close to a busy bar, and the bar patrons are using your parking but not your restaurant? Unfortunately if one is drunk and gets hurt or causes a problem this can create a liablity issue for you. But if you are not right next door to his bar, then you may have people who if they don't mind walking a couple of blocks will do so to eat and "sober" up so they don't have to worry about the DUI issues, Good luck with your restaurant, follow your dreams, learn as much as you can before starting, and trust your self.

i think it really good idea, firstly you need to write down a list of things to check out first, like business opportunities, the area you be working in, the profit your likely to get, bills etc and all costs. before you head into it... good luck

I think it's a great idea. It's niche marketing and you have identified your target market. Food is a need and with lots f Filipinos in the US craving for Pinoy home cooked dishes, I'm sure it will be a blast :) It's also good to offer buffet and serve dishes that are native to different Philippine regions so diners will have a taste of a little of everything. You can also have a group of Filipino singers who will perform for the diners. Just like Kamayan here in the Philippines, a group of singers go table to table and sing song requests. I'm already excited for this upcoming business of yours :) Good luck!

I think it is a good idea. I also think owning a restaurant can be a lot of work and long hours. You have to be prepared to take all of that on. As well as staff and menus and cooking and customers etc. It seems like you may have an idea and some thoughts so I would look into it and see what the costs would be also...you really need to do some research on this matter. I hope it works out for you...good luck.

by all means go for it. i have a lot of relatives in the states and when they come back here, they always ask my dad to cook Filipino food. they crave for kare kare, pochero, utan-bisaya, vegetable soup, lechon. they barely have the time to whip up these things so they often just eat in diners. i also have a friend there who grows malunggay for business. and it sells. i'm sure that business will be a blast. good luck.

i think there nothing wrong of starting a business next to his bar since we have the right to start a business and to make money as long as we respect each other. i think you can get also many costumers if you have a good service and good foods also.

Why not? After all, we came in other place for greener pasture. If you can have good foods to offer, then you can have your own customers too and his customers might come and eat the foods which is tastier in your restaurant. :D

As long as the two establishments are totally different, that would work very well. If they had too much in common they would be in direct competition, and I don't think it's a good idea for friends to compete, but if they were unique in their own ways, people would go to yours and his both, depending on their mood. What a great idea!! Follow your dream, and good luck with it.

If you set your mind to it, I'm sure you can do it. If you are as good as you say, then I'm sure you will bring in customers. You will never know until you actually try it. Go for it! It could be a really nice long journey for you! Go for your dreams! If you have what it takes and you know how to get everything started up, then go for it! Good luck!

It sounds to me that you have a very good idea there! Having a restaurant next to a bar who serves the same clientele is a great idea. Why don't you ask around that neighbourhood to see if people would be interested in going there? Or have a survey of the people in the bar and see what they have to say, as they'd be your customers as well. good luck to you!

I guess by now you two are already friends. Why not talk business to him. Instead of putting your own restaurant right beside his restaurant why not put your skills and knowledge in cooking in his own restaurant since he already has his own valued customers. Be his partner on running the business. Remember, two heads are better than one of course. I don't think it is right to have a business of your own just because you saw the demand over there. Maybe he knows more about running a business like this. Aside from that, you're going to loose one friend instead of earning some more friends if you join him.
