what would you do when someone ruins your reputation??

there's a guy who has been telling people all kinds of trash about me... i just don't know how to deal with it and its just hurting me sooo much emotionally... i don't want to give up but i don't think i can fight either... i don't even know him properly and he's saying all this just because i wouldn't go out with him... i haven't done anything wrong but it really hurts me anyway because at one point of time i had really trusted him... someone please help... i don't want to break down...
