Ok so today my husband is having his retirement ceremony. It's supposed to be a happy day...wrong.
Roy had 3 knee sugeries, the last being June 1 2006. It had a one year recovery. His retirememnt was August 2006. So he had to be medically extended.
He's an MP attached to a clerical company. They kept with holding his paperwork, which is done in 3 month increments. We've had 2 extensions done so far. The third sat on the company commanders desk a month befroe being sent for approval. Well we found out yesterday that is is disapproved.
The kicker is they have not let Roy start to clear. So he was allowed to start yesterday, the ceremony is today and his retirement date is Sunday. They won't let him use the leave he still has as they won't extend his retirment date. He can't pay it out as you can only do that 60 days in a carrer. Well he did that years ago...he's been in 22 years.
So not we're out all of that money...almost 10 thousand bucks. Plus they withold your last pay check. If we had known that the extension was not going to be approved things would be different. Instead we're sitting on pay day with no money and a ceremony no one wants to be at.
Sucks I tell you. 22 years years in the military, 2 wars served, 22 years serving as a police officer and this is what he gets...a kick in the butt.

That's a sad news. I thought red tape is happening only here in the Philippines. Yes, our retirees especially in the military are pitiful. I hope that government authorities could improve the systems and procedures for expediency.

That is very sad to hear. I really and truly hope that doesn't happen to us. My husband is also military and plans to retire. This is very scary. The army is always "hurry up and wait". I hope you get that resolved soon! This is not the best way to leave, after you have served your country and have a ceremony that probably isn't going to be very happy at all. it makes you feel sometimes you worked your butt off for nothing doesn't it?

First of all let me say god bless your husband and your entire family for their sacrifices to protect and serve our country. I know what you mean, the military can be so unfair. My husband injured both his knees and they only would give him 0% disability on a scar he got at the same time as the injury. He's back in the military now. Really we couldn't beat the pay and the benifits. I guess it's a good thing they wouldn't take responsibility for his injuries to his knees. He's okay now, they just get a bit soar from time to time, but they healed okay without sergery. Best of luck to your future.
