Do you still have a phone line at home (land line)?

I was wondering if people still have landlines at their homes. We have one, but we never use it; it’s only there cause we need it for DSL. Do you still have land lines in your home, or have you gone to using cell phones for all of your talking? I mean, they are free long-distance and most places are good because they do mobile to mobile within their network. It’s great cause my family and my wife’s family both have Verizon, like us, so we can call them all the time for free. If you still have a landline, why? do you have a cell phone, too?

We still have a land line. My kids use it alot~ but they don't all have cells. I also use it for DSL and my fax machine. When I call people from home during the day, I use the landline so I don't use my cell minutes. We also have a family plan with our cell company, so when the kids call me or my husband it is always with cells.

We only use it for the DSL. We probably wouldn't have needed to get the phone line if we had cable internet, but it's so expensive. With the phone company, we pay $4/month to have a line and then pay the DSL charges. We don't make too many calls during the day, so it's always not too difficult to stay within our minute budget for the month.

Smurf Land Line Telephone - Smurf land line telephone for the home.
No, I do not have a land line phone. I have only my cell and I pay an extra $5 to have PCS-to-PCS minutes as most of my friends are on Sprint. Therefore it doesn't eat up my minutes. I have cable internet. If I had a small child, I would get a land line in case of emergency's. However, I do miss the really cute land line phones you can get, like the Smurf one below!

It's always good to have something around in case of an emergency, one of the main reasons I carry a cell phone. We only use the cell phones now because we need the phones anyways and it puts everything on one bill. At least it's comforting to him to know you can reach him or vice-versa if needed.

I tend to use my cell phone for the long-distance calls, but I can see where having a good plan for long-distance could make it easier to use a landline. And, of course, the internet. I could go without one if it wasn't for DSL.

For a couple of years we didn't have a landline at my house. There was no point, really. My dad, brother, and I all had cell phones. We eventually got it back, because when my other younger brothers visited it was good to have in case of emergencies. I'm moving into an apartment next year and I doubt I'll set one up. It's a waste of money, in my case.

Yeah, my wife and I are looking for a new place, but we're probably going to need a landline, if only for our DSL access. I wish cable internet was cheaper...

I have a land line and always will. I don't have a cell phone and never will. I don't have any need for a cell phone, and hardly even use my landline except for the internet. I'm just not a phone person.

My land line phone is for bill collectors and telemarketers. lol If someone calls and asks for me and i don't know them . I just say. that person no longer lives here please take them off your calling list. I have cut down on many many phone calls that way. Oh don't tell them I told you that or they might get smart and call me again lol

We do.. long distance plans aren't as good for our cells as we can get it for a landline, and since all my family and a lot of my friends live long distance, I use it pretty frequently. My cell does have a base long distance package, but it's just for when I'm at my boyfriend's and I want to call my folks.

Landlines are still useful nowadays especially if you are also calling a landline number. It is 2xcheaper rather than using mobile phone.

When CityFido (I live in Ontario, Canada) came out with unlimited local calling 24/7, we three (hubby, me and daughter) got the service. I cut the landline and saved money on that. To send faxes, we used our store line. However, when we were forced to close our store (subject for another rant/post)we had to get a landline for our home office in order to send faxes out. For long distance we use phone cards, but that can run you a pretty penny! I was so happy when Costco offered Primus/Wintel phone service with free long distance for North America and hi-speed internet and a free bunch of other services you had to pay extra if you're with Bell and we signed up but got a bummer of a call a month after that our postal code zone could not get the service. I was very unhappy, especially 'cause our postal code was included in the Costco guy's book (that we were OK for the service) but (sigh!) what can you do....

I have a landline phone but it is necessary to have cellphones.I consider that cellphones are much better than landline because it keeps you ready to talk to everyone while in work, busy.Landline are more benefitted in holidays, at home.
