How many years have you been married?

I suspect you knew that each year you have been married you should receive a traditional gift, such as a silver gift for 25 years and a gold gift for 50 years.
Do you know that each of the other years have a traditional gift also....cotton for first, paper for 2nd, leather for 3rd and so on.
It differs slightly for American marriages but not much.
We had our sapphire anniversary back in 2003 and our next big one in two years time is our golden wedding anniversary.
How about you?

We just celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary. I know about the traditional gifts, but I got a Billy Cook saddle that I had been drooling over for a long time.
I got spoiled on our 25th as well with a gorgeous diamond ring. I think we will just continue to buy what we like instead of following tradition.
Is the golden anniversary 50 or 60 years? I envy the time you and your wife have had together. I sure hope I can share as many years with my husband. I think we'll buy matching rocking chairs to put on our front porch if we reach that milestone.

Hi Ally......I can't even ride, well I did a bit when I was evacuated from London to a Somerset farm during the war...I was 6/7 years old...!!
Those Billy Cook saddles sure look great on the website, I do like the Sterling Silver Plate Show Saddle!
If we had weather good enough I would be sitting on a rocker on the porch too....!!
The Golden Anniversary is 50 years and we are going to have a good party...!!
Thanks.

I was actually looking into that recently. We passed the china one, but there is no traditional gift for our anniversary for now , the modern gifts "guide" suggests copper for us this year :)
Copper... well I like it anyways, so it sounds good to me.
Now you... passed sapphire already? Congratulations, that is a long time.
I don't think that, with the trend nowadays, there will be many people reaching the sapphire stage :)

I hope so:):):):)
I think nowadays people tend to forget that marriage, like any other thing in life, needs some compromising and some work.
There is this idea of instant gratification and if it doesn't happen then "let's just quit and start allover"
What I see happening is that there are lots of starting allover because the problems go with the people, not with the situations sometimes.
I Know I am generalizing a bit, but it's a trend i see nowadays.
The best to you:)

I celebrated my 38th wedding anniversary on Feb 22 this year. I still have a bit to go to my golden one but I am looking forward to my 40th and I intend to have a huge party. Unfortunately a lot of the people who were guests at our wedding have now passed away but I will still have my bridesmaids and the groomsmen and of course the little girl(who is now grown up) who handed us our horseshoe.

Well I knew there were traditional gifts for years of being married but am not familiar with them. So looks like you've been married for a long time now. That is so nice to know that people can still stay together for so long with the way marriage and divorce is these days. I am going on 9 years this July, but don't know what that gift would be. I hope to be with my husband untill the day I take my last breath:)

Hello Evacuee, Wow! 48, That's impressive. I'll be celebrating my 23rd next Saturday.
There's a gap in our lists (both traditional & modern) after the 15th, it skips every 5 years after that, but in another 2 years, we'll reach silver. :)
My grandparents celebrated their Gold plus 2 before my grandfather passed away. What comes after 50 on your list?

Last February 2, 2007 is our 7th year wedding anniversary. The gifts associated with the 7th year of marriage are things made up of copper, bronze or brass. I would like to congratulate you on your 45th (I think)wedding anniversary! I've researched on the net that 45 years is associated with the gemstone sapphire, so I guess it is your 45th anniversary. I our marriage will also last that longer or even longer. What is your secret?
