Anyone know about snakes?

I had a pet ball python, she was only 4 or 5 years old and she quit eating and died? Any one have any idea what this could have been caused by? She always had very picky eating patterns and would go months without eating, didnt see any mights on her. I was really heartbroken and feel I could have done something more. Anyone have words of wisdom?
