What do you look forward to in retirement?

sunrise in Florida - I took this picture one morning when the sun was a big ball of red. I didn't get the color to come out the way I wanted, but thought it was still pretty.

I've been retired for seven years and have enjoyed it. Up until my husband became so ill, we were able to do some traveling. Now I'm home most of the time, but I still enjoy doing "my thing" and treasuring being with my guy. I'd love to hear some plans and dreams from others.

I'm beginning to think we will never be able to retire! It costs so much money to survive these days. And for many years my husband was self employed, so he has no 401K plan for us to count on. Although he did recently start working for a company that offers one. As soon as he becomes elegible, we will be maxing that out. I am self employed and have no 401K either. We do have IRA's but we don't have nearly as much as we should.

Don't worry too much. I had some pretty good savings in IRA's until the downturn on the market several years ago. All that planning down 2/3rds! Still, we are doing ok. Just do the best you can.

All I want is to buy a small pice of wooded land with a small pond and build a log cabin hidden amongst the trees with a picture window facing the pond and a little screened in porch I want to beable to watch the sunrise and set from my little porch be able to swim and fish in my pond to have the grand kids over and build a fire down buy the water and cook weenies tell ghost stories and let them sleep out and in the winter time watch the ducks and grandkids skate across the ice through my picture window and all the wildlife that will come to the waters edge for a drink this would be a perfect retirement for me. p.s I live in Iowa

That sounds wonderful! We were going to buy a piece of land in the North Carolina mountains, but it fell through. God knew better. My husband started having breathing problems in the altitude. It was a good dream to have, though and I sure like your description of things. Thanks for your reply.

I have a long time, but when I do,I would love to travel and I want to move to a warmer state for sure! I am hoping to get to Florida before I retire. My husband wants to get a motor home and travel around in that. I hope to change his mind before that day comes!!

Can't you do both? My sister and her husband are full time RVers. They live in Florida in the winter, then travel north or to the mountains in the summer.
