In my opinion, It is the Third book of the series thats really the most important. It has thrown light into a very important part of the story,i.e, Harry and all came to know about Sirius's honesty and Scabbers was unmasked. It was also the turning point that led Wormtail to search for Lord Voldemort.

I share your love of Goblet of Fire. That to me has been the best of the lot for many reasons. First of all I felt the coverage of Quidditch World Cup was great. First time other wizarding communities were introduced. And last but not the least the TriWizard Tournament and the resurrection of Lord Voldemort.
I loved the book very much. But it was a shame that the movie turned out to be the worst Harry Potter movie of the series till date.
Cheers!

I love all of the books equally (I have read the first 6 books twice and am eagerly awaiting the 7th book).
If I had to pick a favorite so far it would be book 6 (Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince). This book keeps you in suspence. Harry is finally old enough to learn all about Voldemort and why he killed Harry's parents. This book takes you on a trip along with Harry and Dumbledore to show you the life of Voldemort, so you can get a picture of who he really is, showing you things that haven't been said before in any of the books. But it also leaves enough questions to keep you curious and anticipating the last book, so that you keep wondering who will triumph in the end.
