LOVE makes the world go round????

Hi, i've recently read a book and was struck at one of the quotations the author mentioned. The thought never crossed my mind before and now that it had, i'd like to hear from other people what they think about this. The quote goes "Love is only a dirty trick played on us to achieve continuation of the species". Is it only a trick?? Or is love a vital need that we are all hungry for more than bread?
