I will never change my avatar but I understand why some people do. But yes, I think it is confusing at first because you get used to looking for certain avatars. Maybe the mind sees images before it reads words. Many of my friends change their avatars so I am getting used to looking at the name instead of just the avatar.

I guess so because Like i font have the eye for information like your id here. I only look at the picture (avatar). So if you have changed it maybe they have mistaken you for another.

I have changed my avatar a great number of times so far, but I cannot really say whether it has affected responses because they are never consistant anyway.
I know that many members fear that changing their avatar will make it difficult for friends to recognise them, but a few of my friends have changed their's and it has never caused me a problem.

It does get a little confusing, but I usually figure out who it is pretty quickly at least on those that I am closer to. But I totally understanding wanting to change it. I have changed mine a couple times, but think I'll probably stay with the one I have for quite some time now.

LoL I tried to change my avatar for only once, but I decided to stick up with this one for the past two months. I am also planning to change it when I get a new idea on what pose I would do on my own photo with my guitar in it, I guess I prefer this one to be more artistic!;)
I don't think this affects the responses we get, all we have to do is make more of our posts with good quality. For me, I remember my friends with their usernames. So no matter what photo they put on their avatar, I recognize them all the time.

I was a strong believer of not changing the avatar. But one of my friend did it and made be to change mine. I have changed twice and now I feel comfortable with this action. Well, people here are mostly familiar with your avatar and not with the nick. After changing the avatar would mean to "prove your identity" LoL. Go ahead and do it. Good Luck

The reason is probably that the avatar is more prominent than your name in any discussion/profile page. So initially your friends may not realise its you doing the discussions especially if they are not concentrating. But it should be just a temporary situation and they'll soon realise it and get back to replying.

I don't know just yet, I just changed my avatar about 20 minutes ago. I have had a few more friend requests, but I just seem to get the same amount of replies to my posts. I guess I just don't come up with the right topics.
