I believe both fields to be good fields. It would depend on what you are interested in. Bioinformatics is a new up coming field and there is a lot of opportunity in it. My husband is getting a PhD using bioinformatics and he worked for Celera Geneomics (working on the Human Genome Project) doing bioinfomatics. So I guess it all depends on what kind of job you want to do. Consider what kind of jobs you want to do, then look to see what their education requirements are--if what you want to do requires a degree in Biotechnology then go for that or if it requires a degree or experience in Bioinformatics then get that--and it all else fails--diversity is good. So if you have a degree in biotechnology getting one in bioinformatics couldn't hurt.
