When you have your kids out with you to eat. Do you pick out what they should eat, or you let them?

I do pick what my kids eat, although they are picky, so I'm very careful, like my second son will not eat beef or any meat, but he loves chicken, so i will get him something with chicken. My oldest though he's not as picky so I will usually try and get him something healthy.

I have 4 kids who eat very well. When we take them out to eat it is usually for a special occasion (at least to a sit down restaurant). I always let them decide what they want. I have one son who will always get a steak. They all will usually get some type of fancy frozen drink and desserts all around. For a night out with them it is usually quite a bit of money, so it isn't that often that we do it.

As much as possible, I tried not to order separate food for my girls. I prefer to train them to eat whatever is on the table. When eating out, I'll make sure to order food that my daughters will like too. :)

Well we let our ten year old pick what she wants and since she eats from the kids menu still i don't have any problem letting her pick. My two year old i have to pick what he can't make an absolute mess with ( he likes to put food in his ears and his hair)

I pick his stuff at the moment, not that he eats much of anything beyond peanut butter. :/ However, when he is older, I will let him choose whatever he wants. We don't eat out too often, so its a treat and if he wants 3 plates of waffles, why not? lol.

When they were little I'd give them a choice of 2 or 3 things to choose from so it didn't overwhelm them and made it easy to pick. After they got older and could read the menu I would give them any restrictions, like no pancakes at the breakfast served all day places, but let them pick as long as I knew it was something they'd eat. If my kids tried to order mac n cheese I'd veto that knowing they wouldn't like it cause they've only eaten the boxed kind like kraft. Once they get into the teen years and are ordering off the adult menu they need alot of guidance in knowing what things are and if it's something they'll like. I also have to sometimes restrict them or they'd order the most expensive thing on the menu.

We normally pick the place. A buffet is preferred. They have been escorted and told to get no more that they think they will eat. Better to make another trip than to not finish their plate. We always have concentrated on the good things and dessert is for when they have done well. We let them choose and encorage them to try a new thing from time to time. They are real good about that. They are also good to eat good things and not have a large dessert. They are 14 and 11 now and I have no problems with their choices.
