Right age for children to own cellphones...

Well, usually you find out by giving the cellphone to your children to test it out. though even if it fails and the cell is misplace your trust is still there because you should think they learnt their lesson and well, the cell might be misplaced again. or stolen. different children have different mature periods.

i, myself, never had a cellphone, until i was old enough to pay my own bills.

Both my kids were given mobiles when they started going out so I could ring them and vise versa. Both of them have lost one of their phones at some point, so they were made to go without for a while. I am against them having them at an earlier age as it is such a waste of money. Even now I have worries about their health, with all the discussions on tumors etc. My daughter is never off her phone and most of her conversations are about nothing. I do have to keep reminding her to not use it so much, but it falls on deaf ears!! How did we ever cope years ago!!!

We did survive without cellphones before, so I don't see necessity of it on kids. I do know a lot of people who doesn't own a cellphone and they can live without it. I understand though that giving cellphones to kids is for emergency purposes. But here in my country, it's more dangerous to own a cellphone sometimes. They show in news that there are people get killed from cellphone robberry. So I guess I'll provide my daughter a cellphone when she reaches teenage, because this is the time when they start to go out a lot.

WHen I have kids, I wouldn't give them cellphones until they finish high school. I think cellphones are just luxury items. I mean, I sure got by high school with one or a beeper either.

I doubt that small kids(less than 12 years old) need to have cellphone for them to use, but it's very efficient way of tracking down your kid. So, I would put cellphone to my kids school bag, from the grade one.
