The charitable work means working for others without expecting any thing in materially. We do our actions for the purpose of getting something in return, but there are some people who do the work of upliftment of others for which they sacrifice their life, such few people are only few in the world. There is famous saying in Telugu language in India, MANAVASEVA YE MADAVASEVA that means, Service to human being is service to God. But as the now world became so commercialized only few individuals have adhering to this concept.
