why do parents feel it is ok to wear a seat belt themselves in a car, but not their kids in? many a time i have been driving along and seen children in the back seat of a car bouncing around with no seatbelts on or any restraint, while their parents are belted up themselves.does this mean that the child life are not as important as parents.i have a son and no matter where we go,i always makes sure she is strapped in,be it a 5 mins or 50 minsjourney,it doesn't take 2 seconds to strap them it. what you will say about this?

I know, its disgusting! Yesterday I was going for a drive and a I passed a car, the two adults in the front had seatbelts on, but nothing for the two kids in the back. They were almost rubbing around in the backseat. What chance do those kids have if the adults are unfortunate enough to have an accident? I would never allow a child to be in my car without a seatbelt. Once a child I was babysitting took the seatbelt off while I was driving. I pulled straight over and fixed it up before we went anywhere. It just isn't worth the risk.

sangita, You really should call 911. In most states it is against the law for seat belts not to be fastened in a moving vehicle.

Not to be mean but who is to say that the child didn't release themselves from their restraint an the parent hasn't had time to pullover and refasten them in yet?I am not saying that this is the case every time but it does happen. I have always made sure that my children wear their retraints but I use to fight my daughter when she was little. I would be driving down the road and she would release herself. I would pull over refasten her. A few miles down the road she would do it again. We would repeat this several times in a trip. All I am saying is that maybe the situation isn't always how it appears.

I hope that nobody thought I was saying that it was alright for a child to let themselves out of the retraint. All I was saying was that maybe the child did so and the parents hadn't found a place to pullover to yet.

in most places that illegal and i could get pulled over, ticketed and possible put in jail. right mow, my kids are in booster and car seats. for me sometimes its the other way around. my car right now has an automatic shoulder belt so i always forget to do the lap belt. i always wear a seat belt in the front seat but when i was younger i never felt like wearing one in the back was that nessicary. and a small collision my sister had while i was in the back seat was a slight eye opener, although they said if i did wear a seat belt i would have had brusing over my stomach instead of just a small cut on my knee. but i always say wear seat belt, especially now driving in California...damn...some people are just stupid on the roads.

I don't know why anyone would drive without them or the children having their seatbelts on. It's a proven fact that they save lives. When you look at the news, many deaths are caused by people being thrown from their vehicle because they weren't wearing seatbelts. It's so easy to put them on. I just don't understand why everyone doesn't use them. Lloyd

Some people think that if the kids are in the backseat they do not need a seatbelt. I always tell my crew to buckle up no matter where we're going. My 10-year-old nephew HATES wearing a seatbelt and will never wear it unless I specifically tell him to do it and wait without driving while he puts it on!

Seat Belt Saves Lives - It is Truly a Serious Issue when we talk about Seat belts, Not only for our Children but for ourselves too.
To me it is the very 1st thing for all of us to do is our seat belts, I do believe it does save lives and I also believe we are role models for our children. I would not think otherwise not to put on our seat belts.

Yes it's something I can never understand plus lettting your child be seated next to the driver or smoking in the car or very loud music. Not to mention letting your kid alone in the car to pick up something in a shop. Taking care of kids really requieres a lot of common sense and knowledge of the law (in my country for example children are not allowed to sit next to the driver before the age of 12)

often the kids are strapped in when the journey starts but they wiggle out of the restraints before long because they aren't tight enough. Then the parents just drive on without the restraints because they think its too hard to fight with the child for only a few minute drive. Sadly, that few minutes is when most accidents happen, because of the kids jumping all over the car. Whenever one of my grandkids tries that, we pull over, even on a freeway, and tell him to either get back into his car seat, or get out and walk because we aren't going to drive with a bad kid in the car. We've gone so far as to sit one grandson on the side of the road and shut the car doors before he got the hint.

There should be a law against parents who are this careless about their children's lives. The safety of their children should always be first on a parent's mind and I don't think there is a reason justifiable enough to excuse such negligence. I feel sorry for kids who get saddled with such parents.

There are laws in some states that it is against the law not to buckle up when you are in a moving vehicle. That is including making sure your child is buckled up.

In other countries, like ours in the Philippines, It is only mandatory to wear seat belts for the front two seats of the car. Rear seat belts are optional, so I guess it would be ok for passengers not to wear them. It could be annoying being strapped in your seat. But anyways, its good that you practice strapping in your son every time you drive. After all a little bit of safety won't harm anyone.

I am very big on my kids wearing seatbelts as well as myself. I will tell you, sometimes I ask if they are buckled and my 6 yr old will say yes. We get half way to where we are going and I turn around and she isn't buckled. It really makes me mad. Now I have started to not trust her. I don't move the car until I see that she is buckled.

No, I don't think it's because the parents value their lives more than their children's. People are busy these days and sometimes they just forget to check. Or children forget to buckle, or they choose not to. It doesn't always mean the parents doesn't care, just sometimes they forget or they trust the child to know to buckle up. I do think it is very, very important to be buckled though.

oh well i think that some parents don't pay lots attention on their children. In other words, they don't love their child,i mean they don't on duties(parents' duties).Maybe they just forgot, and i hope that these things will happen no more.

it is sad to see that our biggest gifts, the children, are treatened like they are nothing. here it is the law, the children till 7 years have to sit n a seceurity chair with belts, and after 7 they have to wear belts like the adults. im glad we have it, because its urgently needed to take care of our lil ones

I've seen that lots of times and I just don't get why parents don't strap their children in! My father was always adamant about strapping me in and often wouldn't even start the car until he knew I was strapped. He'd always express his shock as seeing other parents not do the same thing, he simply couldn't and can't understand it.

I always strap them in myself maybe I am a bit over protective and paranoid but its hard to help it. I do how efver not wear one when I am alone but always do in front of the kids cause I dont want them following my bad example.

Well it is true that seat belts r important, especially with roads in india (simply terrible). Some serious jolts can cause problems in neck & back for the kids. But its also for the parents to understand or the person who is driving to b carefull while driving on such bumpy roads to b carefull & cautious. thanks

My parents trapped me in the car when i was a kid and it was they who refuse to wear seat belts.LOL.maybe I should ask my parents why did that to me, and morover lots of people in India dont wear seatbelts esp the parents, its the teens who adhere to seatbelts and other precautions amidst the thrill they seek.
