I live in a little town in east Texas. We pretty much all know each other one way or another. I mean like the lady that works at our vehicle registration place aslo goes to my church. And the lady that runs the food bank in town I run into every year at the fair. And the supermarket manager I see all the time at the bank. And the teller at my bank just joined our motorcycle club with her husband. Do you live where its that way or are you wondering around among a bunch of unseen bodies going to and fro. Do you try to say "Hi" or give a smile or just walk on by like you didn't see them?

Well, I live outside a little town in northern central Indiana. We have lived in this neck of the woods before but never for very long. We sort of know our neighbors to the right of us, but we are busy people and keep to ourselves. The folks around town are friendly, and we like it here, but as far as knowing the folks around here personally, there are few.

No not really. I know a few of my neighbors but I have only lived in this neighborhood a short time. It was much different when I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania. We lived in the same area for about 12 years. My parents knew quite a few people.
Most of the kids in a 25 mile radius were bussed to the same school. There really weren't a lot of newcomers to the area other than foreign exchange students.
It was a nice feeling to be surrounded by a lot of people that you knew. I miss that kind of closeness.

Yeah we live in an area like you . Everyone knows everyone and although it makes it for a much safer area because you don't have to worry about crime and such , so there is no need to lock your doors or worry about the safety of your children but one of the drawbacks is that when everyone knows everyone else , it is hard to have any privacy as everyone is quick to get in your buisness and tell you what you are doing wrong and what you should be doing and if there is nothing juicy to talk about you can be sure someone will make up something if they haven't heard anything .

We used to live in a place like that. I could call the school and say I wanted Terrie and Jamie to get off the bus at their grandmas' and the person answering the phone KNEW who Terrie and Jamie were. It was nice, kids knew who the grown ups were and that they could be trusted. We were fortunate that our children were able to raise their children in the same place. The old home place. I would like to be there, but the cold weather is just too hard on my husband. So now we are in South Texas and the kids and the grandkids all envy us.

Well, here in our place, we normally know our neighbors up to the neighboring barangay. We have a so-called close knit relationships and our neighbors included. We often smile at each other if we happen to meet along the way, or sometimes stop for a little chat.
