I have been reading many answers and posts about using abbreviations here in mylot. These posts are saying that everytime you use an abbreviation....such as 'LOL' you lose money and the person who started the post also loses....I have read and reread the guidelines and have not seen anything about this....has anyone seen anything about using abbreviations and how they can affect your posts and responses?I'm just wondering because I use them all the time

Using these terms and abbreviations basically is computer realted terminology and I think the people complaining are the ones who dislike reading posts with these abbreviations and this is their way of trying to get people to stop. If mylot has not listed this in their guidelines of DO'S and DONT'S then it is ok to do it. This is the reason for the guideline list so how can there be anything wrong with doing it. A lot of young people use these short abbreviations because it's how they write messages while they are texting via their cell phones, it's understandable because their messages will only hold about 160 characters per text, so they shorten their words so they can write more. Many of them do use them on mylot posts and I'll bet the people that are complaining are the ones who don't understand how to read them and they are probably the older people who never text on their cell phones. In this forum people should type out their words completely but using Hahaha or LOL should be accepted and not complained about either.

I will keep using them.I've been using them since day one and have never lost anything for it and there's nothing in the rules and guidelines saying we can't......they aren't abbreviations,as it's been pointed out to me,they are internet lingo and all sites know them

I have never read it anywhere in the guidelines or in posts. I don't think it is really considered abbreviations. I think of it as internet lingo. I think LOL is used more than any of the others that are out there. I don't see DH and DD and DW and DS here as often as I do on other boards. Everyone says husband, daughter, wife and son here. I think LOL is most popular because who is going to write out "laughing out loud"? Just doesn't make sense.
But, to the point, it is not written anywhere that it is against the rules. Some people are language challenge and find it easier to resort to short forms.

Nope- never seen it-- I use the alot also-- I don't see any change in my earnings due to using the shorter words.. I don't think they are abbreviations-- Just internet lingo. I wouldn't think that mylot would penalize us for that. But who knows-- I'll be reading more here to see what others are thinking. Then again I didn't see it in the rules anywhere- saying we could not use them.

I use them all the time as well, and never saw any decrease in my earnings because of that.
Of course it is important to create quality postings, of course content is important. But the use of a few things like that in the middle of a response doesn't seem to affect earnings, at least never that I noticed.
I don't think mylot would be looking at that. Mylot will probably be looking at one word responses, inappropriate language, things like that, but they wouldn't take our LOL away from us :):)

I have never seen any reference to abbreviations in the rules and can not imagine any reason why there should be any objection to it. I personally do not use abbreviations, although I have seen a prolific use of them.
if a person prefers to abreviate and the meaning is clear and understandable to other members then I see no reason for people to stop using them.

There is no such restriction here and I'm sure the one who was talking about this on other discussions is plainly annoyed with abbreviations. Mylot has never mentioned this in any guideline or alert and no it doesn't affect our earnings in any way.

I hope it doesn't. I use LOL all the time. I try not to abbreviate anything else though. I will try to pay more attention to see if that's the case or not. I have read the guidelines and I didn't see anything about it in there. Maybe someone else has a better answer for you :-)

I have never heard of anything like that. The only don'ts I could find in the guidelines with reference to language or capital letter are:
Post symbols or languages other than English unless you are asking how to translate a word or a phrase.
Use all-caps or excessive punctuation.
Nowhere does it say you will be penalized for using text message symbols. Some people use them so much it is difficult to understand what they mean. I also use BTW, IMO and LOL all the time.

I use "lol" all the time too. I have heard that you get rated more highly if your post has correct spelling, so maybe that's why. That sound ridiculous to me...

It specifically says in the guidelines not to make fun of a person's bad English. I my opinion that includes spelling. And having said that, I would not believe myLot would penalize people for their bad spelling, grammar or English.

Nope I don't believe that. I use LOL all the time, or sometimes hahaha. My star rating never goes down, compared to how many times I use that abbreviation. I don't use other abbreviation at all, since I don't know many of them and it's been a long time since I chat on messenger.

I have not read anything saying that one would not earn as much if one used abbreviations. There are a lot of people here that use abbreviations and many more that use smilies. I think this is how people try to display their emotions in words.
However, it might hurt one by abbreviating words that not all people know.
Instead of writing things out...using ppl for people, n for and, etc...can hurt a person because of those reading it does not understand...then that discussions with all the abbreviations will less likely get many responses.
People do like to read things properly...especially when trying to learn English.
So, beyond the LOL and a few others expressing that one is laughing or found it humorous...I would not use them just to be sure that everyone understands. :)

I did not notice anything like this in any discussion or responses or in Mylot guidelines. I don't think it is true. As long as we are not using other language(no translation with) than English, there may be no objection with abbreviations.

I've never seen anything about not being able to use abreviations and I don't think you loose any money for doing so.Unless you are just responding with LOL....than I could see that you would not earn anything for that.....but most of the time it's placed on the beginning or the end of a sentence.
It is acceptable internet lingo....as long as you don't abreviate everything.Writing everything in caps is also very rude....because in internet lingo that would be considerd yelling.

I haven't read that anywhere and trust me, if it lowered people's ratings and earnings I'd be well and truly screwed LOL.
I use it a lot and I've never seen a drop in my earnings or my rating. I guess someone just doesn't like it, or maybe they truly believe it lowers your rating and earnings.
Maybe their looking for an excuse for their earnings drop? Who knows lol.
