I have a webpage I made in Word, i know people say to me you can't make webpages in word, it is not a webpage, Iam one of those people you just can't understan the programs that people use for webpages and I wanted to do a Tribute page for a special friend who passed away even though a web designer offered to do one for me for free....I wanted my page to be from the heart and I wanted to put my whole soul into it so please be gentle with me....
My page has since been archived by the National Gallery Of Australia for its content and is now extended to promote the times and friends of my friend who passed away....
My page is....

I remember him and Bobby in "Bobby and Laurie" the age is starting to show even more now! lol Is that a photo of the two of you at the beginning of the webpage? How great would that be to have an idol and then actually become friends with that person that does not happen very often!
Even not knowing them personally I find I am still affected when they pass away like recently with Billy Thorpe having only seen him the week before. And Marc Hunter from Dragon, which was my all time favourite band in "those" days! lol But was blessed to see him down our way before illness took over for him and then his passing.
Now in those days "that was REAL music!"

That photo was taken in 1986, I was just an adoring fan in those days, I was so shy a friend tricked me into having that phototaken, I have been told that photo should be in the dictionary under "adoration" little did I know how important to my life he would become, he literally changes my life, he really was a beautiful person. I still think I am one of the luckiest people in the word to have there one time dream come true even if it was for such a short time....

Thank you caramello, yes I was lucky enough to be be with him for the last 18months of his life, for me it was a dream come true seeing as i was so rapt him in when I was a kid, he was so special to me but then he was from the moment I saw him on TV, so to spend that time with him really was special and that is why my page means so much, when he passed away I promised I would keep his music alive. I decided to put my page here when another member suggested this area for reviews because only after another singer from the 60's emailed me last week after finding my page and he was shocked to learn that Laurie had passed away, so I thought seeing as they didn't make a big news report when he did pass away, I thought I would start putting my page out there as there could could be many unaware.... thanks again for your comments, I appreciate it....

Hello lilaclady, I think it is pretty good stuff you've got there for an amateur... and done in Word!!
I especially like the animated Laurie pic. Some suggestions. Why don't you remove the time on the top left side? I know it's a cool thing and all but does it serve any purpose other than proving you can cook up some code? We have our own computer clocks, not to mention the real clocks on our desks and walls. :P
I would say, take away that clock, and move the animated Laurie pic to replace it. Then make the picture a bit
smaller but it would follow directly the line "Bonnie's Laurie Allen Tribute". When this happens, your text below can then be seen. When I first opened your page, it was content-less - because I didn't notice the text till I
thought to scroll down. If you switch to the layout I mention, I think the effect might be a little better.
Also, I am not sure if this bright red and blue is some favorite of either of you. Otherwise, the color seems a bit glaring on my eyes. It is okay.. but if you mute the colors a little. Something for you to explore there.
Anyway my friend, this is just some of my honest thoughts. I think it is a good effort on your part and the webpage looks very good alright. It is up to you whether you want to use any or all of my suggestions. Most importantly, and already accomplished, it is your effort and thought that count. ;-)

Hello lordwarwizard, I thank you for taking the time to look and give an honest opinion, I have used the the red to match it up with the red Laurie name, I just love that signature plus the fact he was an Essendon football fan and their colours were red and black...now the clock, I might move it another area, it is only a new addition I put that there because one of the bands I am helping now id a backing band for international artists, I thought maybe it would help them to know what time it is in Melbourne as they do have to make contact quite often...I will think about putting it elsewhere or I may take it off, I value your suggestions and I really do thank you....

Thank you for your comments I appreciate, your right there are a few things I would like to change but word is rather limited and one day I do want to do my page through a good program, this would make iy easier for the archive people who cant just download it as they have to do or something to that affect, but I am taking everything on board, thank you

That is very nice and very well done. Your friend was lucky to have someone who cared enough about her to take the time to do all that.

Well, obviously you *can* create a webpage in Word. You just don't have the features or flexibility for a more complex website that other programs offer. If all you're doing is a simple page or so, and you've managed to use Word to your satisfaction, why let other people bug you about it? If you ever want to do a much more complex site, then it might be worth it to learn a program intended for that. I believe in doing what you can with what you have, no matter what other people think.

Thank you so much, I am learning a little about how things work with webpages and oneday I would like to try and learn a good program, someone did tell me they are making them simpler, it is a case of finding a very good easy one that lets me do what I want, a friend does his through a program and he cant use clipart which I love to use unless he writes it in well right there I am lost, but one day...thank you again for your comments...

Your page is a wonderful tribute to your friend and there is nothing wrong with it.
It's clean and simple the way it should be, and it says exactly what should say. You should be proud of your work and forget about the "can't be done" things , those are usually the ones that we end up being able to do:)
Great work!

Hi Lilaclady. The website is wonderful. How did you do it with word? It has a certain atmosphere to it. Even though I didn't know your friend, I was drawn to read!
No wonder it was archived in your national gallery... You did a great job.

Sometimes I wonder myself how I did my page as I am not computer savvy really, but I was determined to do it and once I got in front of the computer is was almost like I was taken over and I guess some of the negative comments I have recived in the past brought out the stubborn in me, because I really did want to do it myself in the way I felt he would have wanted it, thank you for your comments it makes it all the more worthwhile,,,,,

You seem to have done good work. I have not gone through the entire site, but have bookmarked it for checking up on it later.
Do keep updating it my friend... I will and I am sure many others will check on it from time to time. Yours indeed is a nice way to express your friendship.
