why do people go beyond a branded item?

in this fast life people have no time to test and examine the new brands. is it fair? what is the advantages and disadvantages?

some people go for branded items because of its assured quality. but i bet many, specially here in the Philippines, buy branded items simply because it is branded. it has become a common classification of social status here.
