Do you trust whatever your doctor's say or do you like to double check it? Do you feel it is necessary to get a second opinion especially for something serious?Cheers! Ram

After seeing what my mother went through with a horrible doctor, I don't have an easy time trusting them. I have had some serious problems over the last ten years and have been to doctor after doctor. I finally found a good doctor who was going to perform a simple procedure on me which would have helped me tremendously. Unfortunately, the hospital that he was affilitated with and where my surgery was to take place refused to treat me because I am allergic to latex. He referred me to another doctor, based out of a different hospital who would treat me, but when I went to see the second doctor, I did not like him, and so I refused to have him touch me. I am now on a quest to find another doctor that I can trust.

I can understand that feeling. I faced the same issues with one of my father's operations when the operation left him worse off than before. I have myself had difficulties in trusting doctors since then. All the best in your quest for a good doctor. Cheers! Ram

Getting secxond opinion doesn't mean you don't trust your doctor. But in my opinion, It is better to get second up to third opinion if you suspect you have serious illness.

Point well taken. You need not distrust your doctor to get a second opinion!! But, do you feel that with more commercialization the doctors are becoming not so honest? Cheers! Ram

No, i dont like to check up on my Dr but i do if i have too. I trust my gut instinct, if what my Dr tells me settles with my gut instinct then i believe it, if it dosnt then i go and get a 2nd or 3rd opinion if i think i need to.

But how do you get this gut instinct? Is it based on something you have read up or something you have heard? Or is it just what you are feeling? Cheers! Ram

My sister and brother-in-law are both doctors and I respect all doctors, but I would not hesitate a single moment to take a second opinion, because it is something related to my health and life. The doctor could be right, but it would not hurt to seek a second opinion. Chances are that there are other ways to address a problem than the one your doctor seems to prefer to adopt. Maybe some other solution would work better for you. The only way to know this for sure is to take a second opinion. Doctors are too professional, in general to mind it if you take a second opinion. It's your life. If you are being a little cautious about it, can anybody really fault you?

Very well summed up. If it is your life, you need to take it seriously, and it is no one else's botheration. Good to hear from someone close to doctors. Cheers! Ram

I would check it out for myself from the internet and at the same time get second opinion or third opinion. The latter opinion would be from a specialist. It plays to be safe espeically if it is something serious.

I will definitely get two maybe three more opinions before making any decisions. It would be stupid not to. I've heard cases where doctors can be wrong.

Hmm... I think it is all the more necessary as these days medical science is becoming a business and even small things are being made to look as if threatening in order to fleece the pocket. Cheers! Ram
