I wouldn't want to include religious books here. If I exclude them then the best book that I have read is the Foundation Series by Sir Isaac Asimov. Believe me it is fantastic and gives you a future view of how the world would shape up and what are the problems the mankind is facing.
Cheers!

Atonement, by Ian McEwan. But don't take my word for it. Read it.

Yes, it's a good book. I enjoyed his earlier work too, particularly the short story collections.

That's a tough question. I've read so many good books that it's hard to pick one over the rest. I used to think Thomas Wolfe, author of "Look Homeward, Angel," was the greatest writer ever because he packed into his writing such a strong sense of living life to the fullest. I think today I'd put "The Kite Runner" near the top of the list because it has such important things to say about loyalty, guilt and redemption.

I have many favourites for different reasons. Also, different books appealed to me at different ages. For a long time Money by Martin Amis was my favourite. But the beauty of literature is that there is so much that is great yet to discover so a favourite can only be temporal.

The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley is my favorite book.
Then the Harry Potter series is right after that.
