How does RAM size affect performance of laptop?
Im still confused ...I got a RAM of 512 MB for my Laptop and my friend has 256 MB in his laptop.But I don't see much of the difference so can we really make out the difference just by looking at the RAM size?

well it depends what are ur requirements ...actually if u are a heavy user like me ..who has to deal with pure graphics n all..then even 1 Gb is less...but if u use moderate applications then 512 is sufficient...n 256 is really low...u can easily notice the difference by playing same games on the two of the laptops....

It affects performance when you have multiple applications running at the same time or applications which demand lot of memory. When your friends computer is caching data on harddrive, your can still work with RAM, and then your computer should be faster, beacuse RAM is much faster. Processor speed is another thing which greatly affect on performance.
