May I apologise you to tell frankly that I don't know swimming and I am really afraid of water especially underwater. But I am interested in counting the seconds one can be under water.I love that.I challenges people to stay under water and cool'ly sits on a stair and starts counting them.We use to conduct some fun games regarding this. Its very interesting to see people after a long time inside water. Some closes there nose before going down while others does'nt.I counted 135 , that was my best number which I did for my friend Gireesh. And I have found many people who will start with a good challenge and ends up with a number of 30 - 40.Have you ever been under water and How long you could stay there without any gadgets used.Taking my one count is equal to one second. How many counts can you be their under water.?

I think 60 seconds would be very good for most people.. however, some are shorter and some are longer. Everyone is different.

Any ways I have to learn swimming a lot to make that 60 seconds mark. And studying swimming is a must when considering the present threat of Psunami and all.Could any body swim and escape from those huge tides in Psunami.Any way I'll give a try.

When I ws young and swam a lot, I could hold my breath underwater for about a minute and a half. I don't go swimming much anymore, so I can only go about 30 seconds or so nowadays. It takes practice to keep that skill, I've found.

When I was a kid I took swimming lessons and one of the first things we learned was holding our breath underwater. Back then I could go for 2 min 12 sec. I haven't timed myself in a while but I'd be lucky to make it to a 60 sec now.

I think most people are doing well if they can last one minute.. that can be a very long time. Some can only do much shorter and some are much longer.
