What else do you like to eat with your steak?

In my opinion, there is nothing better than a nice steak with sauteed onions and mushrooms and a baked potato with the works. This usually is a very heavy meal though, and I'm looking to change things up a little. Do you have any suggestions for what else complements a steak well? I'm looking for some unique ideas so I can add a little variety to my meals.

The way you have your steak sounds really scrumptious.
I love steak, but it has to be cooked medium rare, then I like to have small new potates with their skins on, cut them open and put butter or mayonaise on them and a rocket salad with tomatoes onions cucumber lettuce etc. dressed with a either a bought dressing or a homemade one. Sometimes I like to have hot chips, but steak and salad is one of my favourite meals.
Try cous-cous or polenta for a change to have with your steak, I like this too.

oh yes, rocket or arugala lettuce is great with steaks. I love it with some creamy dressing, alongside a steak.

I love to eat steak but I also love to eat vegetables so I usually will have either a salad or I roast or grill some .
You take 2 pounds of assorted vegetables{ zucchini, summse squash, eggplant, bell pepper, and asparagus works nice}, 1/3 c extra virgin olive oil, and 1/2 to 1 tsp of seasoning salt.Mix all ingredients in a large ziploc baggy. You can roast the vegatables in the oven at 450 degrees for 20 minutes or until fork tender. You could also grill your vegetables. It works both ways.

I have to have potaotes. It dosen't really matter what kind but I have to have potatoes. My choice would be mashed. Salads go very well with steaks. I also like cottage cheese when cooking out. as for steak topping I like mushrooms and A1 sause.

Here in the Philippines in which our staple food is rice...it goes with everything especially steaks. In most restos here they serve java rice or fried rice with steaks. My fave is the plain rice wrapped up in banana leaves coz its so aromatic ,its really good.

I like a nice wedge salad with my steak. You can buy a blue cheese dressing or make mine:
1/4 cup sour cream
1/4 cup buttermilk
1/8 cup mayo
blend together and then add as much crumbled blue cheese as you like. Thin with lemon juice if it's too thick. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Slice an iceberg head into quarters and place each on a place. Top with diced tomato, bacon bits, and a drizzle of the dressing. Add another sprinkle of blue cheese, if you like. This salad can be very light if you go easy on the dressing. It is also pretty cheap! Another great side is steamed fresh green beans. Just toss with a bit of olive oil and a good sprinkling of garlic salt.

I usually make a baked potato (just add salt..thats it no fixings) and green beans which seem to go well with steak.
Aside from changing the side dishes you can change the type of steak you make and how you prepare it with different spices etc. Just using a smaller steak might help to not make it feel so "heavy."
I usually grill my stakes and have 2 favorite ways of making them. The first way I add garlic salt and ceyannne pepper. The other way is to marinate the steak in worstershire sauce over night and then grill it for a really tender steak.

I love steak but I don't get to eat it much. We try a variety of different side dishes with our steak. But I can't think of anything that would make the meal lighter. Some of my favorite things to have with steak is either mashed potatoes and gravy or french fries. I also like to have macaroni and cheese with it but it has to be the kind with the cheese pouch and not the powder. Some type of rice dish might make the meal a bit lighter but I have never had it with my steak.

Well I love surf and turf but again that is very heavy and not something I have very often (Surf and turf is lobster and steak). Usually when I have steak though I like the baked potato and mushrooms as well. I have had french fries with them though instead. I've also done like rice a roni beef or mac and cheese but my favorite is the baked pototoe. Just something about the combination works right.

When I have a steak I like to make sure that I also include some sort of veggie. This way the meal doesn't feel too heavy. Last time I had steak, I also had a nice side salad with spinach and arugala. It's kinda a heartier and spicier salad and went really well with the steak. Another great veggie with steak is broccoli. I usually like my brocolli plain, but my boyfriend likes to have his with cheese.
You could also try some rice pilaf instead of potatoes. This way you can still have your starch, but the rice pilaf could be a bit more interesting or just serve as a nice change.
