My friend will travel alone all the time, she prefers it that way. She says family and friends get in the way, they always want to do one thing while she may want to do another. When she travels alone she sees the sites, she wants to and it is a much more enjoyable experience for her. Please tell me do you like traveling alone yes no why and where did you go and what did you do?

I could see how traveling alone could have its advantages and disadvantages. The most traveling I've done on my own is a 12 1/2 hour drive to see my mom. The drive can get very exhausting by yourself but you can also set your own pace and stop when you want to without having to worry about anyone else. It can also be very scary traveling by yourself especially being a female. One of my close friends made a cross country trip by herself to just prove to herself she could do it. She said there were times when she would get pretty freaked out when she would stop in a hotel to get some sleep. She was always worried some weirdo would notice a female traveling alone and try to start some trouble. Luckily she made it back ok and had a great trip.

Yeah, I've had some strange experiences, mostly with hitchhikers. They would get so mad if you don't pick them up or they really pressure you in those out of the way places. Luckily, God has looked out for me and I always had a good excuse to tell them about not picking them up. Other than that, I've had little problem.

I've never traveled alone, because I was afraid of loneliness, and more importantly my sense of direction is poor, often-confused things, often lost, so if we travel, I will find a companion together.

The first time I ever traveled was in March when I went to Lynchburg. I traveled alone and I would have to agree with your friend. I think that if I would have taken anyone with me they would have gotten in the way. I enjoyed the trip and went to see Appomattox Courthouse. I was also in classes while I was there sut had time to see some sites and plan to see more when I have to go back in July. I would be willing to take family as well but for the most part I think it is fun to travel alone.

A few years ago I flew from London to Toronto to meet someone I'd met online and gotten to know for several years. It was wonderful. I made a lifelong friend and had a wonderful time. The next time I went I took my partner with me, but I was very proud that I'd been able to do it on my own as I'm not a very confident person and it was a big deal to me!

I very much enjoy travelling alone. The furthest I've travelled on my own was up Proudhoe Bay in Alaska. I'm a Brit and always wanted to go to Alaska, so in 1993 I hopped a jet, flew to Vancouver, hired a car and drove North up teh Alaska Highway until I couldn't drive any further. :-) It was fantastic - I learned a great deal about myself and realised that I enjoy my own company. I was able to go where I wanted, when I wanted, and checked in with family whenever I passed through anywhere with a telephone - which was probably once every few days. Given the opportunity I'd do it again at teh drop of a hat. Most years I spend a week or two on my own either touring or backpacking in Britain - again, freedom.

Hi winterose! I have traveled with my hubby, friends and relatives abroad in some countries in Asia and within our country. I have fun traveling when I am with hubby, friends or relatives because I could share my excitement and happiness with someone. However I did travel alone once and I went alone in London. I really didn't enjoy as much because it was kinda lonely being by myself. Take care and have a nice day!

In the last year I've travelled to and from Arizona twice on my own, and now I'm on my third trip to Arizona. Maybe the third return I'll bring my new husband home with me, I don't mind travelling alone. It doesn't phase me at all.

I use to hitchhike alot alone, all the way from Ohio to Calf. I have traveled across country several times alone. I wanted to go at my own pace, and wanted time to think. I do not think that now days it is safe to hitchhike anymore but I sure met some interesting people that way, and a few I wish I had never met. I guess you need to use some common sense when traveling so you can do it as safe as possible.

well as much as I want to travel alone I can't. I'm a moron when it comes to finding locations and navigating the map I really feel stupid with this. Actually I never travel alone I alway have someone with me like a friend.

mmmm, no - I thought I was going to be able to say yes - but honestly I took a few long trips without my husband and without my parents (as a youth) but still, not alone. I've either gone with my children or a group of friends. In highschool I went on a trip to Spain with other students, none of them were friends of mine but I was not actually alone. I do not think traveling alone would appeal to me, things happen - it would be nice to have someone there with you.

i tried to travel long 2-3 times. i learn many things through that i did analysis on my past and i planned my future. My favourite timepass was observing the people. I like it. You are alone and also people with you in travel. You can enjoy social as well as private life . What say !!! it has its own beauty.

I enjoy traveling alone very much. NYC is one of my favorite places to do this. When I am having a shopping day I can zip in and out of the places I like to visit without having to see all the stuff I am not really interested in. When I go to the TKTS booth for cheap broadway show tickets you often get better individual tickets than if you are trying to buy a few. I can each on the run if I like. And as much as I love my friends and family, having to keep up a conversation makes me miss somethings going on around me and when I am in NYC I don't want to miss a thing.

I've never traveled alone, but I can see where people would like it. You can do whatever you want and not have to adhere to anyone else's agenda or schedule I hope someday to go somewhere by myself just to get to see how that feels.

I have driven back home on my own. It is only a 3 hour drive. That is the extent of the traveling on my own I have done.

I do travel alone mom winterose for so many times, most of the inter province only because of our livestock business but never alone when I travel to other country. But if I travel outside our country I will surely love to travel with my husband and my 3 year old son. I really enjoyed going far places with my family and not worry about them being left in our house lol!!!

If it's for vacation travel then I guess no never were alone. I only travelled alone when I went to the Middle East to work. I prefer to travel with someone for I find it lonely to be alone. But reading your discussion makes me think twice now aswell. Maybe it is also a good idea to do that like once in awhile to have space for yourself to recuperate and get back your senses and energy from daily things you have to face and do. Like a "break from everything else."

When I was 21 years old I went over to Scotland on my own. Rented a car and drove around staying in Hostels. It was fabulous. I wasn't constrained by anyone else's schedule. I went to whatever cities I wanted. If I wanted to make a detour it was no problem. At the Hostels I got to meet new people and occasionally went out with a group from the Hostel. It was exciting and fun and the best time I've had on vacation. Now, on the other hand, a group of 4 couples went to Jamaica to a resort together and that was great. We could either spend time with our spouses or our friends and didn't have to try to fit everyone's schedule. I had a good time there as well. I think it depends on what kind of vacation you want to have as to whether it's better to go alone, go as a couple or go as friends.

Travelling alone is preferable. If we join with any otherperson during travel, we could not enjoy the lot we have to see.I prefer to travl alone, because i want to be free from the reponsibilities and budens of having luggage, room, fooding , transport etc problems. I travelled in karnataka state alone i.e., mysore, belur, halebedu, srvanabelagola, hasan and could see and preserve the experiences in my mind even after two decades. I advice to be alone while on a trip to any place except relations.
