Should I buy KH1 or KH2?

Hi! I have never really played either KH game before, but my roommates are super-addicted to them and I have watched them play. Both look like a lot of fun, and I'm a huge fan of Disney movies and other cutesy things. I won't be living with my roommates for that much longer, so I would really like to buy a KH game of my own. I usually play games on my boyfriend's new PS3 at his house, so I can't really "share" the game with my roommates. My question is.. should I buy KH1 or KH2? I have checked game ratings on IGN, and the first one got a higher rating than the second, though both are still good ratings. And also, I guess it might be better to start from the very beginning? But the graphics for KH2 are gorgeous, and my roommates say there are more options when you are fighting instead of just HITHITHIT with some magic thrown in. What do you guys think? Kingdom Hearts 1 or Kingdom Hearts 2?! (I would get KH3, but it's going to take forever for them to come out with that!)

Yea, I would start with the first one. If you start with the second, I would assume that you would be extremely confused, seeing as it is one story in two games. Either way you start though, I believe that you will enjoy both of them. Plus, by the time you completely finish them. There might be a new Kingdom Hearts out. P.S. If you have a Gameboy Advance or DS, you might want to give Kingdom Hearts:Chain of Memories a try. It is about the story inbetween the first and second. It is a card based game so it is a little different from the other but equally fun.

Haven't played the game in a while but what you do is collect cards that have attributes i.e spells, keyblades, etc. You build a deck and when you enter a battle, the fighting moves you perform are based off the cards. It is not a turn based RPG though. You can also combine cards a perform more powerful moves. All cards have a number with them, the higher the number, the more powerful the attack.

I don't have a GBA or DS, but that game sounds interesting. A card-based game? How does that work?

Agreed, KH1 should be just about the best choice to go (:! It will help you understand the main character more, along with the story. Especially since in KH2, things get more complex. Not sure if Nomura will make a KH3 T___T I hope so! But there is a new project he's working on that should be revealed after summer ;)

I've heard they are announcing KH3 this summer, but I don't know when the actual game is coming out! Very excited though~!

I so agree with the first person that you should start with the first one. You can then get the whole story and a feel for the game before going on to the 2nd. Its such a long game, it might take you awhile. We haven't even finished it cause we stopped for awhile and we were a bit lost at what we were doing again. OOpps lol

Thanks! I think I am going to go for the first game, from what you guys have said. Also, it's cheaper than the second one! Yay!

Like you, I had heard wonderful things about these games and was very intrigued. I started from the beginning, buying KHI and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had such fun that I was actually dissapointed when I finished the game. Not wasting any time I hurried out and bought the second for my PS. I have played KHII for a while now and am just not into it. This game is way different than the first and, for me, not nearly as much fun. Not saying you shouldn't get the second just be aware that KHI and KHII are pretty different, you have to learn how to control your character all over again, nothing is the same.

That's really interesting! I hope I will still like KH2 after I play KH1... but knowing me, I might react exactly the way you did. Well, I will give it a try and see what happens. Thanks!

I think you should just get the 1st one, it's a great game and a really great story, it would be a shame if you started in the middle instead of at the beginning. I always start at the beginning, I can never start in the middle with anything, it's like a pet peeve of mine. I'm sure after you play the first one you will get the one for GBA (Chain of Memories) and the second, and eventually, third one.

Thank you for replying! It's a pet peeve of mine to not start from the beginning also, but since my roommates such fans of KH2, it was enough to make me indecisive!

I have KH1 and KH2 and i cant stop playin them.I think you should get part 1 first. That way you can learn to play the game. Also so you can understand the story a little better. Part 2 is a little more advanced, and a little more fun to play, but i would suggest gettin KH1 first so you can get used to the controls.

I wouldn't know which one is better as I unfortunately havnt had the opportunity to play kingdom hearts 2. However I ahve played the first game and I loved it. It ended ona cliffhanger so i'm guessing that it carries on in the 2nd game. Therefore, it is probably better to get the first but I can't be sure. I hope that I have helped.

just get number one, even if your roommate is attempting to get u more into KH2, its just not the same if you dont start from the beggining, i hate not playing the first of something and skipping to the next one, i've had chances to get KH2, but i got KH1 first just so i can say i beat the first one, and know whats going on in the story

Buy Kingdom Hearts , then Kingdom Hearts: Re:Chain of Memories, then Kingdom Hearts , because everything will make sense if you play it in order.

Like everyone else say buy the first one! number two is a continuation of number 1 so if you want to understand the storyline than play them both!!! I did and i completely love them!! i'm so glad i brought them.
