Would you let your toddler ride a horse?

My neighbors used to own a ranch, and had a lot of horses at one time. Today they called and told me that they let their one year old daughter ride a horse for the first time. I'm not really good at riding a horse, but I think that it is pretty dangerous for a kid that young. Do you agree with me, or am I just over-reacting?

If I owned a ranch and I was good with horses and had the right gear. I would probably let my one year old ride a pony with me walking next to and holding me kid and the pony or if I was one the horse with them. But not by them selves no!

I would be like you and would be terrified at having my one year old on a horse . When I was younger we had horses so I grew up with them but was always nervous and never did get over my fear , I was thrown different times and even went sliding down the neck of one of them , my sister and cousin were throw in a pile of manure . I know they say the earlier you attempt to try your children at things such as swimming is the easiest way as they are much more capable of picking up on things when they are young and it is possible it is the same with riding a horse but I wouldn't be able to take the chance with my little one being thrown or falling off as a one year old doesn't have the best of balance .

i think it would be ok as long as you stay nearby. there are some small horses that arent too high up and that you can walk next to. i think i would let my son ride a horse if he had the opportunity. i would just make sure to keep my arms very close by for just in case he lost his balance. when i was small, i think about 2 years old, my parents let me ride on a horse while we were in mexico. they said that i took to it so naturally. there were a lot of onlookers amazed at how small i was, but yet able to be on the horse just fine. i didnt know that until about 10 years ago. i went to visit an old friend, and we had the opportunity to ride a horse. i love animals, so i jumped at the chance. i got on, and the lady commented on how well i handled the horse. i felt very comfortable with it. when i went and told my dad about what the lady said, thats when he told me the mexico story.

Oh I definitely wouldn't let my daughter on a horse that young. My fiances brother lives and works on a horse ranch so he is very experienced with them. For right now we will go up there to visit and let her see the horses so she knows what they are and she can get used to them. When she is a little older I will let her ride one with his brother. It will take a while before I would set her loose on one on her own though. As tame as horses may be they are still animals and the slightest thing could set them off. I would just rather not take any chances.
