My daughter is having her 10th birthday party in June. She would like to have a mini prom theme. I am looking for age appropriate music for the party -- there can't be vulgarity. Definately no barney, wiggles or anything too childish. WE are also looking for food suggestions. We are having the party in our back yard we have a gazebo and will have lighting -- it will be in the evening. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Here that age group is into Hannah Montanna, Cheetah Girls, High School Musical, possibly Vanessa Hudgens, and anything from Disney Kidz Rocks (I think there are 9 of these).
For food tacos went over very well at my 9yr old's party. Hamburgers, pizza. If you're looking for something more upscale try chicken or an assortment of finger foods/appetizers.

Thank you for all the great ideas, as for music I was totally lost. My daughter listens to everything, but I have to be careful with other kids.

I think her age is now ok to have a mini prom along with the prescence of their parents. At her age she is interested to start things in life that she has never been tried but only heard of. And for that starting from your own home is not a problem, try to guide her in the right sense. Hope she gets a part that she always wanted. Good luck

Perhaps you didn't fully read the discussion. I am hoping to find music for the children age 10 to listen too. Also I am looking for food ideas.

You're kidding, aren't you? You expect 9, 10 and 11 year old kids to wear formal dresses and tuxes? Lets get real here, its YOU who wants this mini prom, not her. She'd probably prefer a movie or swimming themed party. I know if MY kids were invited to one of your fancy shindigs, so you could showoff to all your friends, I'd tell you you were crazy! Along with a few other choice words about you expecting me to fork out all that money for clothes that will never be worn again
