Never Quite Happy

Have you ever noticed that most people are never content? It's always too hot or too cold, too wet or too dry. We're either too busy or we're bored. If we have no money we want money. IF we do have money we want more money. Why are we never satisfied?

Seems that way doesn't it. I think a lot of it is just a way to start a conversation that anyone can relate to in one way or another. I have a friend who comes over for a visit about twice a month and invariably the first words out of her mouth are "hi" then a complaint about the weather, her daughter, her love life, her car or whatever strikes her fancy that day. After she's done complaining then we actually talk. It's just her way of starting a conversation. On the other hand when it comes to the quality of our lives we don't ever seem to be satisfied with what we have. I would be considered living in poverty by US standards, but I have more "stuff" than I could ever use in a lifetime and I'm definitely not starving. But I do find myself complaining sometimes about the fact that I can't always have exactly what I want when I want it. Then I have to kick myself and do a little reality check and realize that I have a heck of a lot more than a few billion other people living on this planet. That usually puts me in a more "content" frame of mind.

That's an interesting point. I think you're right about complaints being used to open a conversation. That's really too bad that we do that. It would be interesting to try say something positive as a conversation starter. I wonder how easy that would be to do. It's easier to relate to a complaint I think. I agree, most of us are very lucky. We don't even realize how good we've got it. I have an aunt who just came back from mexico. She said there are people living in house made from pallets. Can you even imagine that?

I've had some rough times but I always knew they were temporary and I just needed some time to get on my feet. But to live like that and know that it's not going to change? I don't think I could handle it. It's just too depressing. Every time I see something like that on TV I tell myself that I'm not so bad off and things could be a whole lot worse.

Well, that is what human nature is all about. And i am thanklful because of this, because if this trait didn;t exist in our nature then we wouldn't have most of the comforts that we enjoy today. Eison wpuildn't have invented the bulb if he was contented with the candle. So, i guess that its good to be like this and its bad too. Because it gives birth to GREED.

Good point! We do need it to give us motivation. But you're right also it can lead to greed...and complaining! I think people complain too much. Maybe we need to learn to be satisfied without being content.

Your right, I'm guilty of that also, always trying new things to find some kinda satisfaction in life but it seems to work for a short while. This day and time there is so many things to do and places to go and see. Its like there is not enough time in the day. Life keeps us so busy and the world keeps turning, just have to hold on tight so we dont fall off...lol
