there is a chicken pox outbreak in our place. it started in a kindergaten class where my niece went to. most of the kids who have never had it caught the disease.expectedly my niece caught it too. since we live together in the same house and i have a 1yo daughter i immediately consulted my daughter's pedia for precautions and maybe a vaccine to prevent her from getting infected. unfortunately, the doctor told us it was too late for a vaccine since my daughter is already exposed to the virus even before the chicken pox have started to show up on my niece's body. the best we can do, she said, is to let her take medicine as soon as the signs are there. now, already two of my housemates caught it. i'm really worried since she's too young for it and she might really suffer hard. plus, the medicine is super expensive. drugstores here have even ran out of supply since there's a great demand for that medicine. i jut hope my daughter's immune system could fight it off.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear about your daughter catching it so young. The main things to do are to keep her comfortable, make sure she doesn't get dehydrated and, if possible, stop her from scratching herself as the marks will scar if they're scrated too deep. In the UK we tend to use a skin lotion that is dabbed on to teh skin to make the sores less itchy, but many parents here now just keep an eye on their child for complications, keep the child hydrated, and stry and stop them scratching. Sometimes tepid baths (no soap) will help soothe the irritation. Best of luck.

Oh..... And don't give your baby anything salty or sour to eat. They can get the lesions in their mouthes, and salty and sour foods can irritate the sores.

I have three children and my oldest daugher got chicken pox, while I was pregnant with my third child. My youngest daughter was about 4 or 5 months old at the time. I had to go stay with friends while she was in the incubation process. My youngest daughter never caught it. My son was born and had chicken pox when he was about 2 1/2 or 3 and still my youngest daughter never caught it. She has never been vaccinated for it either. He doctor said some people are immune to it, hopefully your daughter is one of those people.
