I have lost a sister to this disease in May of 2003; I have since lost my aunt to it yesterday. I have known of others who have suffered from it; If you wish to impart some knowledge here on this disease or how it has affected you, please do so. I will say this though. This cancer is so tricky whereas you don't know you have it until too late. but there is a test you can take to find out if you do. A CA-125; love to hear from some others.

I am sorry for your loss and particularly sorry that you've lost two loved ones to this disease.
I lost my Mum in November 2006 to ovarian cancer. She had been feeling ill for a long time before she was diagnosed but her doctor misdiagnosed her symptoms. She had a second diagnosis from another doctor and he misdiagnosed it too. Eventually she had to go private to get a doctor to give the correct diagnosis, at this point she had two tumours - one the size of a basketball - and she was rushed to surgery.
She underwent treatment for quite a while before the disease beat her.
I can't help but worry about my sister now but at least she is aware of the risks and will be able to have tests so that if she does ever get it she will be treated early on but hopefully she never will get it.
For those who'd like to find out more about this disease, I'd recommend visiting http://www.eveappeal.org.uk (it's the site of a UK based charity but has information on it relevent to women anywhere).

MarkyB,
Thanks for responding about this and giving me the site to the charity dealing with this; I will take a look at it once I get some time. I am also sorry for your loss as well as it is more recent as well; Yes, your sister should be concerned as well; thanks for coming and responding about this silent killer.

I am sorry for your loss. My mom had it in the 70's but recovered from the illness after I think cobalt therapy. I didn't know there was a genetic test for it. Thank you for the information.

Hi Savvynlady
I am a "Survivor". I was diagnosed in Sep 2003, "Ovarian Cancer Month". My Dr initial level was 4C, 13lb tumor, tendrils and all. I am a Born-Again Christian who went to my church and asked them to pray for me. They did, God changed the tumor and my surgeons were to remove it totally. I have been cancer-free for three (3) yrs and my CA125 has been 9 or below. Am I a typical Ovarian cancer patient, yes and no. I had no symptoms. I went to my dr because I had a growth that looked like a pregnancy in my late 50's. It was a 13lb tumor. Please ladies, if there are any risk factors in your family, ask for the CA125 blood test. They call Ovarian Cancer "The Silent Cancer" because it has no symptoms...Believe me there are many of us out there that know.

Oh I am very sorry to hear that you lost a sister to this dreaded disease, oh no then you lost your Aunt yesturday that is horrible. Oh really then it is a lot worse than people even thought that it was due to not knowing you have it until it is too late. I have not personally been affected by this but due to having cysts the doctor does recommend that my ovaries be removed and this must be the reason for he told me to avoid ovarian cancer.

Kathy, thanks for the condolences and I am glad that your doctor recommended the cysts removed in time; Sadly there are so many women that find out entirely too late that they have this; I hope things work out for you and thanks for posting.

Qec,
I wish I could have heard of this like five years ago when my sister was catching it big time. I sure would have bought it and let her use it. Thanks for the information.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.
My mother was diagnosed with this desease in April 2005 when she was just 49.It was a stage 3cancer.She underwent surgery and chemotherapy. Now she is cancer free for more than 2 years.Praying so hard it stays that way.She did a total life style change after being diagnoised with this desease.Became a complete vegitarian, started to drink green tea and doing yoga and meditation to help her feel energised.
As you said it's very difficult to find out the desease as there is no specific symptoms. We would tend to ignore the symptoms as simple stomach upset or as blotting.I think we should take it seriously and should see a doctor if the symptoms persists for more than 2 weeks.

Sorry to hear about your sister and aunt. I'm a ovarian cancer survivor, luckily to have it found out at stage 1. I'm only 29 years old then and it was 2 years ago. I undergo operation but still i have 1 ovary left since i insist I wanted to have a baby.
I'm so afraid but you know there's always a good Lord above who take good care of every details of my life.
I undergo 6 sessions of chemotheraphy, after that would you believe i got pregnant? Mybaby now is 7 months old and very healthy.
