Carbon dioxide and other air pollution that is collecting in the atmosphere like a thickening blanket, trapping the sun's heat and causing the planet to warm up. Coal-burning power plants are the largest U.S.
source of carbon dioxide pollution -- they produce 2.5 billion tons every year. Automobiles, the second largest source, create nearly 1.5 billion tons of CO2 annually.
Here's the good news: technologies exist today to make cars that run cleaner and burn less gas, modernize power plants and generate electricity from nonpolluting sources, and cut our electricity use through energy efficiency. The challenge is to be sure these solutions are put to use.
Is the earth really getting hotter?
Yes. Although local temperatures fluctuate naturally, over the past 50 years the average global temperature has increased at the fastest rate in recorded history. And experts think the trend is accelerating: the 10 hottest years on record have all occurred since 1990.
Scientists say that unless we curb global warming emissions, average U.S. temperatures could be 3 to 9 degrees higher by the end of the century.

Sorry but I disagree - Carbon Dioxide is a gas that is heavier than air - Look at the molecular weights of both of them. So cannot collect in the upper atmsophere it is also soluble in water turning into carbonic acid, recent studies have also shown there is an inverse relationship between carbon dioxide and temperature (ie increase in temp when CO2 levels decrease and decrease in temp when CO2 levels increase - the opposite of what governments are telling us). CO2 also is more soluble in warm water than cold, (this is why coca-cola goes flat in the fridge faster than warm coca-cola).
The earth gets hotter by natural means - the earth revolves around the sun in a 100,000 year cycle sometimes much closer distance (hence global warming) and sometimes much further distance (global cooling).

yes, many people have realize it, but , you know , as a common one, we have on power to change any one, I am not the secertry of UN, and not president of USA. how can I do, can somebady tell me?

WE need to plant more trees to help reduce pollution, even though Global Warming is nearly all caused by natural means - distance earth is from the sun, sun spots and volcanic activity, man mad pollution has very little effect on global warming, but we shouldn't be complacent, and still try and reduce pollution.

I totally agree with you its high time now to seriously take steps to fight against global warming.one thing is we should start using bicycles and other one is we should plant more trees. Lets all start doing it first at the individual level.

I believe the most important thing is not use air condition. But I think most people won't do it even though they both know the air condition will pollute surroundings. And we must retrench various energies like water, paper, electricity etc. I can't imagine what does the world would be in the future.
