last to last night my husband and i walked to our local shop at around 7:45. while their we saw our neighbours 7 years old daughter.i asked her why she was out alone after dark and she replied because my mom needs some milk.We walked back with her to ensure she was safe.Do some parents not realize the risk of sending young children out after dark in the current situation in which we live?

I would never send my young child into a shop at that time. But when we were growing up,we grew up in a sort of campus, with the market outside the campus border.I remember that me and my sisters would do the shopping etc and return home at 7.30 or so.Ofcourse, things were different back there. The area was much more secure than the situations now in these days.I do think kids need to learn independance. But 7 yrs is a little too young for kids to be independant yet.

Wow. That's amazing. I can't believe that her parents would do that. I'm in shock. Maybe they send her out on prupose hoping that she'll get kidnapped. Because I can't see how anyone could be that dumb. Although, I don't know the situation of the family. Do you know the family well? Maybe if the parents are invalid and can't go out themselves, maybe? Not that that is much of an excuse. If they girl was a little older it might be more understandable. But at age 7? That's crazy. Someone should say something to her parents. I would hate for something bad to happen to that little girl. Unfortunately, that may be what will happen before her parents open there eyes.
And I'm glad you walked her home. You obviosly care about her safety more that her parents do.

That is crazy! I get so upset when I see young children roaming around town alone, even during the day time. My oldest child is 12 and he isn't even allowed to walk around town in the day light. I couldn't imagine having my youngest child (who is 8 years old) out walking around by himself at night or even day time. I don't understand how some parents can be okay with that and think that it is perfectly fine. I think that some of them, may hear of abductions/rapes etc. that happen to kids but they have the thought that "well this won't happen to my child". That belief is total nonsense. As we all know, things of such nature can and do happen anywhere and everywhere, even in small towns such as the town I live in. Thanks for the discussion posting, have a great night.
