I have had this happen before and it was embarrassing but the check out lady was very nice about it and let me know I'm not the only one this has happened to. I am normally pretty good at adding things up in my head as I put things in the cart and used this to help my kids as they were growing up to do their math - they add things as we go and I check them on it. Just Saturday my 15 year old went to the store with me and I noticed he came to the cart with something and was adding up what was already in the cart before he asked if he could get what he had in his hand - he already knew how much we were spending, I thought it was cute and helpful although I already had an idea. We did have enough for him to get the additional item :)

It's happened to me even couple times. Both times I was at work and went to buy something to snack and sure forgot my wallet on my desk. Then at counter, oh-no, where's my wallet!?! Luckily they know me at shop, so I took my stuff and came later to pay the bill.

Yes, it has happened to me too. I now carry a calculator, or ask the gal ringing it up, to keep sub totaling as she goes along.

this happened to my cousin Landerwears, who is working full time at the grocery store down the street - he did not have enough money I am tired of everything costing so much though too - i bring a calculator when I go to the stores - one has too today where prices are soo much I can barely add in my head you know. Plus it is a smart way to shop

This has happened to me once a few years back and I am not able to explain the extent of embarassment that I was put into that day. I had to pick out a few items from my list for my bill to come down. How am I to get such a pathetic situtation that I was put into just because I did not check my wallet before entering into the shopping mall.

Yes, it used to happen to me in the early days of adulthood. And while it's embarrassing and you think everyone is looking at you and thinking you're a loser or something, they're really not. I worked as a grocery store cashier in those days, and it was a common thing to have a customer need to put a few things back. I'd just smile and help them and not make a big deal out of it - it's far better for everyone involved to put something back than to bounce a check!

That would be SOOO embarassing!! I am terribly afraid of that happening so I always see how much money I have (in cash or my checking account) before I go to the store. I think I would just die of embarassment if that ever happened to me.
