In Canada we are very lucky. You can take up to a year paid parental leave. It can be taken by either the mother or father or split between the two. I have never taken it as I was not working when my kids were born.

Lucky you are in Canada. As for me in Malaysia they have law that maternity leaves should be given to mom for 60 days but it also depends on the salary we received. The law is only apply to non-executive level but not for executive level. That means if the boss called and ask to work, you have to come for work.

we get 26 weeks as standard here in uk. But we get paid very low wages while we are off :(

Lucky you. You get 26 weeks as for me I only get 7 weeks but my company gave me full salary.

I was given 12 weeks and took every single day of it. I even took an extra week.(unpaid of course)

The unpaid is for the 12 weeks or the extra week. As for my company they only gave me 7 weeks with full paid.

12 weeks plus any vacation. The vacation time is paid, but not the maternity leave. Pretty standard for the US.

im on week 15 of my unpaid maternity (i had to take it 2 weeks befor i had my daughter due to early labor) leave & probably not returning to work, of coarse they know this already, they knew before i had the baby that i may not come back & are perfectly ok with that, as none of my female bosses worked while their children were small, they told me to take my time & think about it
