I want to gain control of my finances, which I never have had. I want to know whats coming in and whats going out to the cent so that I can make wise choices for my future. I am thinking that I should start with a template so I can keep records and organise them.

This maybe a bit nerdy, but I put all income/expenses that appear in my bank statement in an excel spreadsheet. This way I can look at it and see where the money is going. I've also created a personal budget. I now can compare my actual expenses with my budgeted expenses and see where the differences are. http://www.aboutextramoney.com has some information on how to budget and it has helped me.

Well, first you need to set yourself up a personal Budget and learn to stick to it, which a lot of times can be easier said than done. You need to put all of your Bills down on a Sheet of paper, and then try and divide them into what each paycheck can pay on them, or when they are due, and then go from there. Then you just remember for instance the first part of the month, could be Rent, Car payment, etc. and maybe end of the month is Phone Bill, Light Bill, Internet bill, etc. and see if this helps you to feel a little less stressed.
