I'm looking for ideas for good things to do with a high energy kid on low energy mom budget. lol.
We do lots of things through the day. Wrestle a bit, go through basics, letters numbers and stuff. If I'm cooking something he can help with by mixing or something, I let him help there and we have family game night.
I used to take him to play at the park and would go with him, but these days its painful just to even sit here working. And I get tired easy. So what low key things can we do to keep him occupied and spend some good time together.

Scavenger Hunts are good for kids who are active, because then they have something specific to do, but can expel energy at the same time, with a nice reward at the end!
Crafts are good, also, like easy fun crafts to do together, that will give him a feeling of accomplishment, while doing something with you, that he can show off later. this website http://www.orientaltrading.com/
gives good ideas as well as crafts you can buy that are inexpensive.
Have you tried Hide and Seek? While he hides you can relax a good couple of minutes =)
Puzzles?

I'll have to look into these ideas. Crafts are always fun, but we just don't have the money. Even for cheap ones. As for scavenger hunts, I love those, but save them for Easter. lol.

Free activities: Go to the library, park, nature trial (pick up things on the trail and make a nature wealth together), easter egg hunt, go to the park and collect different types of rocks, paint it read books about rocks. Museums (usually around $5 children under 1 are free. I love the children's museum. Exercise together, invite their friends over and watch a movie together. Go to the beach, mountains, and the zoo. Plant flowers together and talk about bulbs, sunlight, roots. Read books about plants.

That all sounds great, but I just don't have all that energy for those things. I'm 7 months pregnant, tired and suffering some really harsh Braxton Hicks right now. I just can't do all that.

A few ideas:
- set him loose in the bathtub with some shaving cream. Much easier to clean up than finger paints. They used to let the kids play with shaving cream on the tables at my girls' old preschool, and the kids loved it.
- empty toilet paper roll + dry beans or rice + glue + colored tissue paper = almost free, homemade rattle. You can do one with two paper plates, too.
- check the thrift store for craft stuff and new videos for him to watch. I can usually find craft materials for less than $1 each.
- is he ready for the computer? Playhouse Disney and Nick Junior have some neat stuff online.

Great idea. buy 2 pieces of pressed wood. its cheap. cover one with plain fabric and the other one you paint with blackboard paint. put the fabric one above the black one. use the fabric one for his art and he can go wild on the bottom one. chalk is cheap... another idea is childrens dvds. singalong or dance along. mine spends at least an hour a day singing and dancing. but the craft ideas are very good. another idea is putting a matress with springs inside on the floor and letting him jump his energy out. lego blocks also keep them occupied and its fun to play with your kids.

My kid is just 2 years old and i dont know what is the age of your kid, but then also i m telling you my experiences may help you out. I try to indulge her in some playway activities like dancing with her on her rhymes, telling her different stories while working, reading different types of books of alphabets etc., showing her different pictures, colouring, playing in the garden. try these if possible.

Mine is almost 4, but he could use some more reading and all that stuff, but he won't sit still long enough for it. Hasn't been able to since he learned to walk. lol.

I saw that you are 7 months pregnant. Congratulations. Why don't you let your son help you with doing something for the new baby? Make a painting for the babyroom or something that will make him feel like a proud big brother.
Whatever you do with him, going to the shop, walking in the park or going to play ground because everything you do is quality even when you can do it only for a short time.
