The question you are asking is too general. Antibiotics is one big group of medications which try to fight off infections. They have different actions and side effects, so you cannot really say one thing that applies to all the antibiotics, as far as their effects on small kids is. But generally, since small kids are both more vulnerable to infectious diseases and more vulnerable to the side effects of medications, usage of such antibiotics, or any medications in general, should be under the supervision of a doctor. In fact, the instructions of giving the antibiotics should be followed exactly. Antibiotic usage when not needed is not only useless, it also exposes the individual to possible side effects. Prematurely cutting off antibiotic usage, however, one it is needed and the effects are beginning to show would promote resistance of the infection to the antibiotic, so the next time you give the antibiotic for the same infection, it would not work as well anymore.
