List one or two goals you wish to reach concerning your interpersonal skills by the end of this month. 1.) I'd like to be able to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger 2.) I'd like to work on my appearance to promote openness and invitation for others to feel comfortable starting a conversation with me.
Then venture forth and do through trial and error. You need to read people. Read their body language. In line at the super market, are they looking around or averting eye contact? Are they standing erect or slouching? Do they look like they're interested in on thing or another. First step is reading another's susceptibility to random conversation, and then choose a topic that isn't perceived as routine or commonplace. If you're just starting out, you might wish to save it for service-related employees alone until you build up your self-confidence and your skills at reading body language. Keep it short and to the point. Teller at a bank or check out isle has seen a good amount of people by midday to 2 pm. Play on this. Empathize by asking "How's the day been? Long, short or in between?" You're giving them an opportunity to vent and engage for as long as the transaction occurs. Become a single serving friend in that minute to minute & 45 seconds it takes them to check you out or complete your banking .
Improve your personality for emplyer to get impressed.

Interpersonal Skills are basically people skills - the ability to work with and get on with other people. They might include such things as being able to make yourself understood to others, team work skills, keeping your temper, managing your time well, prioritising work, knowing how to listen to people and work out what they want, etc.
They want to know that you're going to be able to get on with your workmates, as well as wanting to know that you will be able to do the job.
Some jobs - like those that are 'customer facing' - depends greatly on interpersonal skills. Ohers, like IT, allow you to have less well developed interpersonal skills.
However, whatever job you're doing, they're important to have!
Best of luck!
