Well, both windows and linux has advantages and disadvantages. I'll list very few which may help.
Windows cost much for a single user and can only be used on a single computer, offcourse i am talking about the genuin windows and not the pirated ones. while linux for home user is free of cost and can also be downloaded from their site. even for business user it cost much less than Wnidows.
Windows is more user friendly than its linux counterpart. though linux also comes in window style version but still it's much easier to use windows than linux specially for first time users.
Till date, Linux is said to has been more stable than Windows and it has lesser bugs reported than its counter part.
Windows is weaker against spywares and viruses than linux (atleast repotedly) generally because of it's program structure. this very structure makes windows more user friendly.
There is more hardware as well as applications available that work with windows as compared to Linux.
These are only few basic differences in as common language as i could manage.
