At what age did your child stop taking naps?

My son will turn three at the end of the month, and he stopped taking regular naps not long after he turned two. He still has the occasional nap if he happened to have gotten up extra early or is not feeling well, but most days he gets up around 8am and I try to get him tucked into bed and asleep by 8 or 9pm. At what age did your child(ren) stop taking regular naps?

My 3 year old son stopped taking naps at 2 years old. He does however still go to "quiet time" from 3-5 PM. He goes to his room and plays or reads. It gives me a break to get the stuff done that I cant do with him demanding my attention, and gives him a chance to play and expand his imagination. I have read that children that spend some time alone learn to be more self sufficient and more imaginative. I get a kick out of standing outside his door and listening to him talk to his toys or sing songs he has made up. Sometimes I will join him at quiet time and let him lead the play. Sometimes he falls asleep, (not often!) sometimes I fall asleep. (not NEARLY often enough!) Works for us!

Wow! I often wish my little guy would still take regular naps.

My daughter would take naps up until she was 3, but my son was only around 2 when he stopped because he would not sleep at night. I would keep him awake until bedtime and then he would get a full 12 hours. It was so nice to get them to bed early as I had the evenings to myself. Now they are older they are up till 10-11pm most nights so my peaceful evenings are not the same. At the moment it is the school easter holidays so they stay up even later. They both take after me, as I love the nightimes, when most people are already in bed. My advice is enjoy your free time as it all disappears when they get older!!LOL

Sometimes I don't feel like I get much of a peaceful evening even now. Can't imagine what it'll be like once he gets older and stays up even later!

my daughter was 3 and a half when i stoped putting her down for a nap. she was waking up in the morning at 8 am and would sleep in the afternoon for about an hour and a half to two hours then would go to bed at 8 30 and talk to herself until 10 pm or later some nights, so i realized she wasn't tired at night, so i had to cut out the nap time. she now sleeps, from 8 pm until 8 am.

I sometimes wish my son would still take naps, but I do like the fact that he goes to sleep earlier in the evening when he doesn't take a nap.

I would say that both of my children stopped taking regular naps by the time they were two years old. But, on occaision - they will fall asleep in the car & I let them nap for a while or when they are sick. Sometimes I can tell they really need a nap but I just can't seem to get them to do it. I even try laying down with them - goodness knows I could use a daily nap myself!!!

I think just about every mother could benefit from a daily nap! It's just too bad very few of us actually have the time to do so. ;o)

I don't have kids but I know that for myself I was never a napper. My parents use to try to make me take naps or at least my dad did but I never wanted to take them. I use to sneak out of the bed and crawl away.

My children are up by 7 on the weekdays and 6 ( on their own) on weekends! They stopped taking regular naps when they were about two except for my youngest. She still took regular naps until about the age of three. They will lay down and take a nap periodically like you said.. if they are tired more than usual because they got up too early or if they are not feeling well. My kids bedtime is 8pm.
