yes my son just turned 5 last month. and he talks to himself yes an hour before he goes to sleep. and its like himself putting himself to sleep. i find myself guilty at this, coz i had no time to read him stories and its like he gives stories to himself.

don't feel guilty. i read to my daughter and she still talks to herself. i'm sure it's just cause they are not tired enough to sleep yet so they need somthing to do while they make themselves fall asleep. it has nothing to do with you not having time for the stories. dont' worry too much. he's developing his imagination with this and it's teaching him to fall asleep independently so be proud.

my son is 5 and he doesn't. At bedtime he's tired and goes right to sleep. My daughter just turned 3 and she sings and talks for a bit...sometimes just a few minutes, but sometimes--like last night--it's a good 30-45 min. I don't mind...just remind her to go to sleep every once in a while or she will be tired. As long as she is lying down and not getting up and all, I don't care. :)

While my children are all grown (well, the youngest is 16) I remember that all four of them did just what you are describing. I never let it bother me. As long as they stayed on the bed and didn't get up and run around, I was fine with the talking. I knew that eventually they would fall asleep. I so miss those days. Enjoy your lovely daughter while she is young, they grow up very fast!

My daughter doese that.I think she talks to her doll baby or glow bear that is in her bed(she is 18 months.I do not think my son did that though. But she will talk for about a hour and then she is asleep. My sister-n-laws daughter did the same.

My son doesn't really have a set bedtime its so hard to get a 2 year old to sleep, he's always asleep within 30 minutes of going to bed. I just put on his favorite music or movie, and he drifts of minutes later. Sometimes warm milk can help, or even just rubbing they're back.

My son used to do this. He would also make noises like he was playing but just lay there. I always let it be, I too sometimes have a hard time falling asleep. So I never really bothered him about it, unless it went on for an extreme amount of time.

My daughter is sixteen and she talks to herself all the time. Not just at bedtime. This is the way kids figure things out in there head. When they are this young they don't know what it means to think or talk to yourself or doing things inside their head. As she gets older she will not talk to herself so much. I personally would like to stop the voices in my head so that I can get a good night sleep once in a while.
