The Green Family Dynamics

Am I the only one out there who actually kind of _likes_ Eric? I wish they would have given him a different type of storyline, but I'm intrigued by the family dynamics. I find it particularly interesting that Eric seems to be the "weaker"/"controllable" son. His dad suggested Eric run for mayor, so that Johnston can "still have some say in how things are run". I thought that was a very revealing comment regarding the Green family dynamics. What does everybody else think? And where do you think it will lead on the show?

Nope, I like Eric. He's a good character. You can tell he's got a good heart, good intentions, and was hailed to be the perfect son. Then we find out about April, and in a way are forced to accept that he's not as perfect as everyone had imagined. To an extent, he's about as bad as what Jake seemed to be. The family dynamics are funny. You can tell that Jake and his dad are more alike than either of them is to Eric. Seems to be part of the problem the father has with dealing with everything. You can tell that their mother is really taking the realization that Eric isn't so great with as much difficulty as April had to have been. The comment about running for mayer and seeing how Eric seems to be the weaker and more easily controlled also stuck out to me. As with any show, you can expect characters to contradict their previous behavior patterns. I wouldn't be too surprised to see Eric do some dirty work or reveal a more violent side if he's forced into the situation. Also wouldn't be too shocked if the whole situation with April leads to him choosing the single life for a while.

Thank you for your response! :) Yes, I think his affair with Mary really did show he was not the perfect son, but I'm actually hoping he will be single for awhile. Not because I have anything against Mary, or even the relationship, but because I think it would be an interesting place to take the character. Another thing I really love about the Green family dynamics is how protective Jake actually is of Eric, and the gentleness Jake shows towards him. If Eric does some dirty work, and meets violence with violence, will that change how Jake perceives him? I really hope to see at least another season of this show (preferably more), and I think there's so much interesting potential for exploring the relationships between the siblings, and the parents.
