With Studio 60 apparently on permanent hiatus, what do you think would have made the show work? successful?
I thought it had a good cast, very good writing. It was a very large, spectacular drama...and they take a while to gain a regular audience. TV bosses are just pulling the plugs too quickly these days.

I loved Studio 60! I was disapointed, however, at the first show... it didn't grab me as much as it should have. I think that's when the best impressions are made. I continued to watch it, and grew to love it. Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford worked so well together. The rest of the cast also melded well also.
I think it became too much like The West Wing. Same writer-- same tempo. People probably weren't ready for that same fast paced comedy/drama. I know I watched and compared it to SNL several times, not fair, I know, but it just happened that way.
I hope that NBC will wake up and realize that they have taken off a very good show. I was so upset, that I haven't even given the show that replaced it--the Black Donnally's a chance.

Studio 60 did not grab me right away so I did not watch it a second time. Even with the shows with high ratings the TV bosses keep messing with their schedules by not running for several months and then bringing them back. It has been a messed up TV schedule right from the beginning. I do hope they change it next year.

I'd agree with that. And sometimes it seems that the TV bosses have it in for some show, preempting it, moving it around until it just can't make it. There was one show called Greatest American Hero that was a very good, cute show they did that to.

I don't know what would have worked. I too loved the Bradley Whitford / Matthew Perry chemistry (from back when Matthew showed up for a short arc on West Wing). The fast-paced dialog is classic Sorkin, and the main reason I watch his stuff. Who knows - Fox pulled Firefly before it even finished the season, and it was one of the best written shows I've ever seen.
