Do you think making your kids sit in dark closets is a adequate punishment?

Growing up my cousins had to sit in dak closets as punishments. They used to race to the front closet because it had a window in it where light would shine through. They had to spend hours at a time in there. I personnally think that punishment is god-awful. Is there anything worse than that?

There are lots of things worse than that, but I don;t care what anyone says that is outright child abuse.

Oh, hell no! .... That's not the right form of punishment, that can be very traumatizing to a child. Result: A full grown adult with issues. LMAO ... Just look at me:-)

let me tell you, my children who i love with all of my heart and who are the biggest pains in the A$$ you will ever know. I would never do something like that to them. that is mean and sick. they grow up to be damaged adults. i am so sorry that they had to go through that

That sounds terrible. I would not have liked to be punished that way. There had to be a better alternative. How did they respond to being locked in a dark closet? Did they straighten up or did I make them act out even more? Today that kind of punishment would definately be considered child abuse. Lloyd

That's exactly what I thought. I hope they've grown out of it and don't use that technique with their own children. Lloyd

Yeah, I guess there are worse punishments, but I still think that's awful! I definitely consider that abuse, and would never use that as a punishment. I can't imagine being in there for hours at a time!!

There are worse punishments, like being burned, kicked, beat or starved. But that is child abuse plain and simple in my opinion, I would report someone if I knew someone doing that to their children. My children would never ever sit in a closet, not even for a second as a punishment.

I agree with the previous posters. There are worst forms of punishment but this counts as child abuse in my book. I couldn't imagine doing that to my son nor could I imagine being punished this way as a child. It's very sad.

That's horrible. A lot of parents from my parents' generation did similar things, often b/c that's what their parents did. I had a discussion with my mother about some of her more unpleasant tactics and she realized she really had no reason but that her mother did the same to her. Kinda explains why we're all a little twisted now and why so many are deadset against spanking. But yeah, the closet thing? Crosses the line in a big way. Especially for hours! What on earth could a child do to warrant that? Blessed Be
