Have you ever had an auto place mess up your car?

I recently brought my car to the Walmart I work at for an oil change. More than a week later my car was making odd noises so I opened the hood and found that everything was covered in oil. They hadn't put the cap back on after doing the oil change and there was oil all over everything. Luckily they cleaned my entire engine and even provided money to check and see if any permanent damage was done. Fortunately there wasn't anything lasting done, but it has taught me a lesson. Always check under the hood after getting an oil change. Have any of you had a problem when bring your car in for service? Did they admit and fix the problem? Or did they blame it on you and say it wasn't their fault? Share you experiences with auto places.

LOL I've never had anything like this happen but years back I had a Buick skylark that went 3 years with no "help" - I put in gas, oil, water, as needed and that was it. One day I had some 'spare money' so decided to take the car in for the works - oil change, filters, all that stuff. After that the car never ran the same again - someone told me it went into shock with the special treatment and didn't know how to behave.

Well that's interesting. :) At least you know how to do all of that yourself though, I have no clue. That's why I have to rely on service centers.

Yes! I took my car to a service station to have an oil change & the jerks loosened the bolts holding the engine together & tried to tell me that I needed a new gasket. I took it to my regular guy & told him what I thought & sure enough, he had his mechanic go under & tighten it. I called the BBB on the place & when they came around to leave advertizing at my office I posted a note to warn people about them.

That could have been one very costly mistake! Nobody messes up my vehicle but me. haha! In my first year of mechanics i forgot to tighten the oil plug on a truck and it cost my boss $600. to replace the guys engine. We seem to have a problem with our Canadian Tire stores in my city. At least a few people i know have had problems with supposed fixed problems. I think it should be up to the shop foreman to check the apprentices work. Ya gotta keep them coming back and happy with the service! Eh? Take care Smartie1685.

I had replaced my transmission and then the car wouldn't work, I went to the guy who replaced the transmission. He had someone working with him, who instead of putting transmission fluid they put oil in the transmission the guy said he was going to replace the transmission, but instead he moved to another state. Another time, I had gotten a car from someone who I went to for years, and knew to be reliable, the vehicle had a bad transmission, it was within the first 30 days so he was supposed to take the thing back, and give me my money back or get me another vehicle. Instead he charged me over 2000 dollars to fix the transmission, if he wasn't going to honor the agreement to take the car back then he should have not charged me to fix the transmission. Here is the weird part, since he fixed the transmission the defroster and air conditioner stopped working, and the weird part is the door panel for the driver's side door was loose. How do you mess with the door panel to fix a transmission? He had the vehicle for months. So my uncle who was going to buy a vehicle from him didn't and my family stopped using his services.

Well those two incidents over the years isn't so bad now. At the time it was hard because after putting the money into repairs that didn't go anywhere coming up with the funds for new car was hard. Eventually things work out so I guess it is good, I mean could have been worse and I am also glad that those problems didn't happen to you.
