Maybe u forgot about MOTOROLA mobiles...
NOKIA - these mobiles are very good in thier functions, battery backups but the looks of nokia cells r not so good.
SONY ERICSSON - these cellphones has good looks but fails in battery backup & has little complex functionality
MOTOROLA - this is best in every sense, hence this is the best mobile present in the market

I object to that statement.I am motorola user & have used L6 & L7 extensively & found out the major problems with it.
My L7 fell 5-6 times & now look at it,slightest knock it will recieve on the side of the camera ,it gets turned off.I can't do anything properly.I had a 310 nokia, which has fallen down umpteen no: time and its still working great.
Compared to nokia & SE Motorola is less durable due to it's slimness.Thats my opinion
But
1.Motorola looks best
2.Provides longer battery life due to electrophoretic display(in case of L-series)
3.Extremely slim & stylish
4.Titanium casing
Disadvantages
1.It has a poor display
2.Less durable due to thin frame
3.Produce far less sound than the Nokia & SE phones

it will depend on what you're looking for, i like nokia a lot, i always used nokia, and don't plan on even changing of brand, just for the ipod, but that's another story.
Nokia phones are very resistant, well some of their models, but sony ericsson has some very powerful multimedia phones, so it will depend entirely in what are you looking for in a phone, about your style, but you will be using that phone so you should consider a lot before going for one of this two brands

I prefer Sony Erickson. The quality is better and the units are unique. Unlike for nokia they keep releasing a new phone wihtout completing the needed features.

I sell cell phones as part of my job. I have taken a lot of customer complaints about Nokia. Of course my company only provides the cell service, I must forawrd the customers complaints to the Nokia manufacturer however....
Nokia's seem to break a lot.
My company doesn't sell SEs so I cannot say anything for this brand.
I would recmmend Sanyos or Samsungs as they offer a lot of different features and are reliable as well offering a wide selection of kinds and colours.

I've always been using Nokia. I find it idiot proof and easy to manage. Thus, the preference would be towards Nokia..

See there is particular -ves &+ves in these phone Nokia & SE.
Nokia was the first company to enter the indian market with their legendary 3310,I presume. We are familiar with these Nokia settings more than any other phones. So when it comes to switching over to some other phones,we may have an initial starting problem.Like we say "Old Habits Die Hard"
I faced a similar situation when i had to switch from Nokia to a Motorola L6.Initially i found it extremely tough & told my uncle that Motorola was not as user friendly as that of Nokia. Now that i am used to L6's settings iam finding it easier to use, excepting a few features & settings.
In high end phones we may find that SE has a slender advantage over Nokia including the N-series,N-gage,& all the nokia phone having Wi-Fi,& internet &bluetooth & IR connectivity. These Nokia sets work on an operating system called SYMBIAN,While SE does not work on SYMBIAN OS.Problem with SYMBIAN is that it gets easily affected & clouded by the viruses from internet and might require more frequent cleaning & formatting resulting in loss of all your contacts. So SE handsets are more secure compared to Nokia high end sets.SE handsets also provide for better sound quality than nokia's phones, with attachable external speakers also. But the joystick if there might get damaged faster than you think,if you are a busy user of your phone.
This is only one aspect related to these 2 phone comparison, there are other aspects that i might not know.So choose your phone depending upon the features you mainly need & main purpose of the phone for you.So if you need to just talk & message then even some ordinary colour or even black & White phones costing less than Rs 4000 will do.

although both companies are good and have a high reputation, i think that Sony Ericsson is better of the 2. Nokia has revolutionized the cell phone industry but all the new models are exactly the same. Only thing that is different is that look of the nokia phones, different shapes and different colors. Sony Ericsson went from 2.0 megapixel cameras to built-in walkmen. After Sony Ericsson released the 4 or 5 phones with the walkman feature, Nokia followed suite.
