GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!! I am so mad and I want to vent, and this looks like a good place to do it!! As my daughter out grwos her clothes, I sell them on ebay. Why not - they've hardly been worn, so someone else may as well save a few bucks!! Anyone, I sold them in early Feb, and the buyer took 6 weeks to pay!! I state I require payment within 1 week. But, given that she's pregnant and I know how forgetful that can make you I was understanding, as long as I received payment. So even though I state its required within a week, I guess I don't really mean it. I'm not gunna leave negative feedback unless I really have to! So anyway, she finally pays, I leave her feedback and post her the clothes. Then today I log on and there's a message saying 'I hope you understand me leaving you negative feedback because I wasn't happy with your packaging and there were items missing'. Now, I'm sorry if things got lost in the mail, and I am willing to consider the packaging. (I put the clothes in an old nappy box and taped it up real well - I've sent things like this before with no problems) If she had contacted me I would have been willing to work things out. Maybe I could have packed it better, but I was sick of waiting for payment! I dunno, I just think that given I was so understanding of her, I would have appreciated it if she returned the favour. If she had contacted me I would have offered a partial refund, or even send over some more clothes my daughter has outgrown, but now my flawless feedback is tranished forever with a negative. I know its partially my fault, but I'm so angry that I gave her positive feedback. So much for being understanding.

eBay banner - Buy a clue on eBay
Sorry to hear you have had problems with a buyer. First of all, though, don't worry about your "tarnished" feedback, it is only a little red dot on a page and means nothing, especially if you leave a clear and factual follow up. Buyers will see your sensible follow up and know the truth of the situation. I take it she didn't bother to contact you at all regarding the packaging, as such you can mention that in the follow up, but I should stress that eBay's own guidelines do say that the BUYER should leave feedabck first so the seller knows that they are happy. Put it down to experience hun and move on.

Wow, I never knew ebay recommended the buyer leave feedback first. I basically leave it whenever I'm happy - so as a seller when I've received payment, and as buyer once I've received my item. That will all be changing now!! Thanks for the tip!

I am so sorry that this happened to you! I have seen sellers get negged for the simplest reasons, over things that could have been resolved through contacting the seller. I used to give feedback as soon as the buyer paid, but after reading other sellers' experiences, I have since made it my policy to leave feedback after the buyer leaves me feedback. Ebay also suggests that feedback not be left by either party until the whole transaction is complete to everyone's satisfaction or if nothing else can be resolved, depending on the situation. I really wish buyers, especially new buyers, would learn to email the seller first before being so hasty in leaving negative feedback. Don't let this get to you, though. If you're a longtime seller and this is your first negative, other buyers will see that, and will simply just overlook it. Good Luck!
