This is actually a really good question/topic for discussion(well, I think so anyway LOL). This is something I have been thinking about a lot lately, because I've got a couple of situations going on where I am beginning to think it's time to cut my losses, so to speak.
The thing is, I have a really time just giving up. I really wish I knew how to make it easier, because I am starting to think I've let certain things go on for way too long, and it's only going to be my own fault if I get hurt more or pushed too far. But then again, the things I really ought to be walking away from are also about the only things I have"going for me"(which is... sad).
So, I really don't know. Making these sorts of decisions is practically impossible, it would seem. :\

tnx for finding this post a good topic for discussion :)
well, on your reply, seeing it as"the only thing you have going for you" must not be real, it's just how you feel about your situation, being involved. i don't know your story but i just believe that everyone has something better instore for them. you always have a way out, may not be easy but it's there, just waiting for you to take. and beyond that point, possibilities are endless. it's like looking at it as "how can you pick up some flowers when your hands are full holding dirt?".
i know giving up on someone is always hard especially when you've invested so much time and emotions already, but you got to remind yourself once in a while that you only live once and it better be happy:)

I guess it depends on the mood that I am in. I get very overwhelmed and have had enough I will say I quit and give up. There are times that I say I quit and give up, but then later on when I have calmed down and have had time to think about it I will go back and try to work it out.

i think that's very common to all of us. once we've calmed down after blowing our fuse, we rationalize and feel we can still endure another round :)
tnx 4d reply.

It depends on the person or job. I quit a job because of mistreatment from the manager. No matter what I did I got yelled at in front of customers, so I left.
Quitting on a person, they would have to do something to hurt me so badly.

If someone obviously is using me and my feelings are hurt and nothing is changing...then I quit!

there are times that one should really give up the fight, it's just a matter of when and how.

I don't give up very easily. I always push myself to the limit, especially in cerebral matters. With exercise, I'm not quite so gung ho, unfortunately. Once I get interested in something, I like to pursue it avidly. For instance, I've been looking and looking online for a certain kind of wallpaper border. I'd hate to guess how many metasearches I've done and how many websites I've looked at. I even tried e-mailing the company who made it, but I received no reply. I suppose I should give up and find something else, but I'm still hesitant about giving up. I'll probably only do that when I've gotten so bored with trying that I don't WANT to look any more.

I think it depends on what it is. It's very rare that I'd ever give up on anyone, but I have to admit that I gave up on my dh's daughter after 10 years. It just hurt too much.

My 16 yr old son. He is right about everything, knows everything, and has an opinion on everything...anyone else is stupid. He is in the rebellious stage and I can not wait for it to be done with. There are times that he and I will start to go back and forth and I have to say that I have had enough. I have to walk away because he is so negative about everything. Which is the complete opposite of me. Which I know is part of the rebellious teen thing...so I just have to quit at times and walk away.
He will have to figure it out in time.

I try so hard not be a quitter but I guess I have a short frustration threshold sometimes. I have given up on many thigns because of frustration with people, situations or enviroments. I get really super frustrated whn people around me are stupid or negative.
Aaah well as I grow the threshold increases - I can tolerate pretty much anything these days.

How about just postpone for a little while? LOL
You are only quiting temporarily. :) That's pretty much what I do.

well, it's been said, while there's life, there's hope :P
no options left ... yeah, i guess that would make one quit, otherwise, just stay where he is and live in misery.
tnx 4d reply :)

well....for me...it would b frustration...after so long of not acomplishing what I've been tryin to do...it sets in...and thats it...I quit before I lose it...but then i get pig headed...and go right back at it after a breather.

that's really irritating but don't let that make you quit.
