Urinary Tract infections are no fun. I know that I hate to take the antibiotics for them, because they just seem to cause other health problems. A friend sent this home remedy to me, and it really works. I've used it several times, and have given it to my girls as well. Dissolve two tablets of Alka-Seltzer in a glass of water and drink it at the onset of the symptoms. Alka-Seltzer begins eliminating urinary tract infections almost instantly--even though the product has never been advertised for this use.

Wow this is wonderful information. I am not sure that I can take alka seltzer with my ulcer meds but i will check with the Dr. I always use cranberry juice to help with mine. I drink 2- 64 oz bottles a day at least when I have UTI and it does help but it takes a couple days. Thanks for sharing this wonderful tip

Cranberry juice works well. I've used it to even ward off an infection, before it gets to that anti-biotic stage.

Ouch! I used to get kidney stones, and then would get a UTI on top of it. Since I've been watching the amount of iron I eat, I haven't had a kidney stone in over a year!

I looked up what they are made of and here it is.... Each 2 tablet dose contains: Sodium 1150 mg. Phenylketonurics: Contains Phenylalanine 11mg per 2 tablet dose. Alka-Seltzer Heartburn Relief in water contains the antacid Sodium Citrate as the principal active ingredient. so I wonder what it is that helps us when we get this problem. Do you think it is all the salt? The phenylalanine? Thanks for sharing it since it could alleviate someones' problem.

I don't know. It could very well be the sodium. Since UTI's are often caused from getting your body's chemical balance off kilter, it would seem reasonable anyway. I'm not even sure what phenylalanine is???? lol

I get UTI's frequently and I will definitely have to try this. I also don't like taking antibiotics too frequently. It makes sense that alka seltzer will work for that. It cures hang overs too from what people tell me. I sometimes can't stomach having to drink the alka seltzer but if it helps with a uti I will do what I have to do! Thanks again for posting this!

I don't like them much...but I think it's Kroger that has come out with their store brand and they have different flavors. To be honest, I add a little bit of sugar to it if I ever take them!
